Our beautiful mother, Ruth Knutson, passed away at Providence Seward one week after celebrating her 89th birthday. Both my sister, Linda, and I were with her as she made the transition.

Mom was born and raised in Granite Falls, WA. In her early 20's she traveled to Seward on a steamship. After she arrived in Seward, she worked at the New Seward Hotel where she met the love of her life, Harry Knutson. They married when mom was 24. Dad built our home in Forest Acres, where she lived for the next 63 years.

She was loving, giving and very spunky. She loved roses and the color purple, and she especially loved her independence. She found excitement in new experiences no matter how small they were. She loved driving and was able to drive alone to Anchorage and Kenai until the last year of her life. She lived life happily and no one was a stranger to her. She was my best friend as well as my Mom, and I miss her more than words can express.

She is survived by daughters, Karlyn of Seattle and Linda of Seward; and grandchildren, Shaun of Nassau, Bahamas, and Crystle of North Dakota. She is also survived by one brother, Bob Lewis of WA.
