Seward Highway traffic slowed due to McHugh fire

The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities reduced the Seward Highway to one lane traffic on Wednesday, July 19, due to having firefighting crews in the area to battle the McHugh fire. The reduction, which was in effect from 6:10 a.m. until 10:10 a.m., was between Mile 108 and Mile 113 as crews battle the McHugh fire.

The wildfire, as of Tuesday, had grown to an estimated 500 acres amid continued hot conditions in Southcentral Alaska.

According to the Alaska Division of Forestry, firefighters had managed to contain just 2 percent of the blaze through Monday evening.
