Tsunami test set

Government agencies across Alaska will test tsunami warning systems from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. March 30. The test will be conducted in Seward. The test is conducted to ensure that the warning system works.

The test will include sirens, and messages on TV and/or radio that a tsunami warning has been issued.

Emergency groups suggest that people be aware of the test and that they should not call 911. Evacuation is not needed, unless one wants to practice their procedures.

The agencies involved are the National Weather Service, Alaska Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Alaska Broadcasters Association, as well as local emergency service groups.
