'Captain's Mast' - March 3, 2016

 


The following is from the journals of the Seward Police Department. Those who have been arrested or summoned are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Feb. 19

11:13 - Simplex Grinnell caller reported a general fire alarm at Fifth. SVFD and SVAC dispatched. Upon arrival the Seward Fire Chief found no smoke or fire. Alarm panel reset.

15:01 - Earthquake: Magnitude 4.0, 55 miles east of Iliamna, depth 86 miles. No tsunami was generated

20:20 - Individual reported a maroon Chevy 1500 driven by a male pulled into their driveway at Iron Drive. The driver appeared intoxicated and when told he had the wrong house, he went next door. He soon left in the vehicle headed south on Seward Highway. Officer did not locate the vehicle.

22:09 - Officer came upon an intoxicated male at Third and Jefferson and was speaking with him when an employee of Resurrection Bay Seafoods stopped and said that the subject worked for them and that they would give him a ride home. PBT .137.

22:14 - An intoxicated man was sitting behind the J Dock store. An employee of Chinooks tried to speak to the man but he did not answer. Officer contacted the subject, and he appeared to be able to take care of himself and was given a warning about an open container.

22:32 - Officer arrested Malek Holloman for concealment of merchandise taken from the Chevron station in view of the officer. He was taken to the SCJ. He was trespassed from Chevron indefinitely.

Feb. 20

01:39 - Verbal warning for obscured view given at Seward Highway and Phoenix.

03:38 - An individual reported an altercation at the Breeze Inn. Officer arrested Martin Gregg for probation violation.

06:26 - Individual reported a person hitchhiking near Metco. He was concerned about the safety of the individual because he was dressed in dark clothing and was hard to see in the dark. Officer was unable to locate anyone in the area.

11:19 - National Weather Service in Anchorage issued a winter Storm Watch for the Kenai Peninsula from 3 p.m. Feb. 20 through the afternoon of Feb. 21. Snow accumulation of 8 to 15 inches in the higher elevations and 2 to 8 inches elsewhere. Higher amounts were possible. Wind might gust to 30 mph. The storm would begin in the Homer area and move northward into the Anchorage and Mat-Su areas. Seward was included in the watch with the possibility of higher snow fall.

17:00 - Winter Storm Warning upgraded to Storm Warning. Heavy snow was expected. Between 15-30 inches of snow expected on Turnagain Arm. Heavy snow was expected inland near Sterling, Soldotna and Homer.

17:09 - Verbal warning for failure to come to a complete stop at a stop sign issued at Seward Highway and North Harbor.

18:00 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to Third. SVAC and SVFD dispatched.

18:53 - Verbal warning for failure to illuminate head lights after dark issued at Seward Highway.

22:54 - Citation issued for failure to carry insurance to Evan Marshall Pullins at the Mariner’s Memorial. Verbal warning for expired registration.

Feb. 21

00:54 - Citation for failure to carry proof of insurance issued to Jacob Borrows at Third and Monroe. Verbal warnings for driving without head lights and failure to carry registration.

02:44 - Verbal warning for speed given at Seward Highway and North Harbor.

03:35 - Individual from Evergreen Group Home reported a resident violent and verbally abusive. Officer transported the resident to the hospital for evaluation.

05:49 - Individual requested an ambulance to Third. SVAC/SVFD dispatched.

10:38 - PSMC ER reported a patient/pedestrian who had been hit by a vehicle. The driver, Lorali Weathers Moore, was at the hospital and had given the patient a ride. Also contacted was the victim. Citation was issued to Moore for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

11:37 - Individual reported an 8-year-old child missing from the Catholic Church. The child had blond hair and blue eyes, and was wearing a bright green and gray jacket and sweat pants. He had been missing about 15 minutes. Child was located with his father. They had started walking home.

13:01 - Public Works advised that there was a rock slide on Lowell Point Road. Harbor on-call would be on the way. The slide was extensive and the road might be closed all night.

14:12 - 911 caller an ambulance.

16:14 - Citation for proof of insurance issued to Ryan Joseph O’Connor at Third and D. Verbal warning for speed and tail light requirements.

19:34 - Individual reported he opened up Lowell Point Road and it was passable.

20:20 - 911 caller reported an uncontrolled fire in Eadsville, first road on the right toward the back. BCFD requested SVFD for mutual aid.
