'Captain's Mast' - Dec. 24, 2015

 


The following is from the journals of the Seward Police Department. Those who have been arrested or summoned are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Dec. 14

04:22 to 6:21 - Citations left on 10 vehicles for parking where posted prohibited on Adams, Jefferson and Washington. One parking warning issued.

05:53 - SPD Dispatch received two calls about low power lines on Dimond near Ash.

06:39 - Automated system advised that all Seward schools would be delayed two hours. Busses would still be running later.

07:10 - Electric advised that the low wire was a GCI line.

10:30 - Verbal warning for speed given at chamber commerce.

12:49 - Officer placed an abandoned vehicle notice on a vehicle on Caines.

13:41 - Individual requested a welfare check on a subject on Blying Sound. AST advised.

13:50 - SAST requested medics to Blying Sound Drive. Troopers responded. BCVFD/SVAC dispatched.

14:06 - ACO requested an officer to Sea Lion for a stranded motorist with school about to get out. Lucas Macalary was issued summons for driving without valid license.

14:57 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to Madison. SVFD/SVAC dispatched.

17:28 - Citation for failure to provide proof of insurance issued to Holly Chappell at the Chamber of Commerce parking lot. Verbal warnings for failure to stop at a stop sign and expired registration.

18:40 - Ambulance requested to pick up and transport a LifeMed flight crew.

19:01 - Lifeline requested an ambulance to Third.

19:01 - Individual turned in a found driver’s license and a credit card.

Dec. 15

04:15 to 6:00 - Citations left on 11 vehicles for parking where posted prohibited on Fifth in front of Hotel Seward, at Fifth and Adams, Fifth and Jefferson, and on Fourth in front of Seward Alehouse. One parking warning issued.

11:10 - Electric department reported power outages in town and at SMIC.

11:13 - UAFPD reported fire alarm sounding at the Orca Building on Third. SVFD/SVAC dispatched.

11:24 - Safeway reported fire alarm activation. No smoke or fire reported. Seward Fire Department responded and was unable to reset the alarm.

11:24 - Electric department was advised of a power outage at Primrose.

23:28 - Citation for parking on the roadway left on a vehicle on Swetmann.

23:55 - Warning for parking against flow of traffic issued on Swetmann.

Dec. 16

05:53 - Citation for failure to stop at stop sign issued to Blake Duane Pullins at Ash and Cedar.

06:05 - Individual wanted extra patrols on Benson for speeders.

06:32 - Street department requested that Alaska DOT be called and advised that a storm drain cover was missing on Third at Wells Fargo.

06:40 - Citation for failure to stop at stop sign issued to Jimmy Wain Gardner at Ash and Cedar.

07:55 - Individual reported that two vehicles were blocking the road in front of Kimberly Court.

10:27 - Caller reported that her ex boyfriend was at her residence on Third and refusing to leave. The caller said that the ex boyfriend was leaving and did not need any assistance.

11:29 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to Third. SVFD/SVAC dispatched.

13:00 - Individual turned in a leaflet, with accusations at people, that was on several vehicles downtown.

17:57 - Citation for expired registration issued to Saydra Mahoney at Fourth and Madison. Verbal warnings for improperly displayed tags and head light requirements.

18:28 - 911 caller requested that an officer respond to the area near the skate park where it sounded like someone was trying to break out windows. Officer responded and conducted a foot patrol in the area, but found nothing unusual. Two witnesses spoke to the officer and described two kids who were making a ruckus. Officer attempted to locate them, but was unable to.

19:15 - Verbal warning for tinted windows and excessively loud music given to the passenger of a vehicle to pass on to the driver in Safeway parking lot.

20:10 - Citation for head light requirements issued to Rachel Dow at Seward Highway and Airport Road.

22:02 - Officer was flagged down by a motorist with a disabled vehicle on Third near Monroe. The driver said he called for a tow, but it might not come until morning.

22:58 - 911 callers reported a transformer blow out at First and Jefferson, and many power outages.

22:58 - Caller reported a water flow alarm sounding at the Orca Building.

Dec. 17

00:09 - Citation for basic speed issued to Dean Lohman on Seward Highway near Hemlock.

08:20 - Ambulance requested to Bayview Trailer Park. BCVFD/SVAC dispatched.

17:59 - Citation for head light requirements issued to Christopher Carreaux on Third in front of TYC.

Dec. 18

08:00 - Officers participated in ALICE training at the elementary school.

09:53 - Ambulance requested to meet LifeMed at the airport. SVAC dispatched.

11:29 - Fire alarm testing at Orca Building

12:37 - Ambulance requested at Gateway Apartments. SVFD/SVAC dispatched.

Dec. 19

00:01 - Verbal warning for head light out given at Seward Highway and Bear Drive.

02:22 - Individual requested an officer to Benson because her friend was intoxicated and was refusing to leave. Officers placed the subject into protective custody after registering .245 on PBT.

03:00 - Officers spoke with a subject after they saw him sleeping behind the wheel of in front of the Ale House on Fourth. Officers advised him not to re-enter the vehicle or to start it. Subject called for a ride home.

03:03 - Officers arrested Martin Alexie on domestic violence charges on Fourth. The 911 caller reported that someone was choking her. The call disconnected before more information could be obtained. She called back advising of her address and requested the officers to hurry. Officers spoke to the caller and her son, who was also a victim.

06:48 - Individual reported a vehicle in the ditch at Mile 5 Seward Highway. BCVFD responded and found no one in the vehicle. All responders canceled. AST advised.

09:14 - An ambulance requested to Hotel Seward.

11:54 - AST advised of a third-party report of an accident somewhere between Mile 20 and 25 Seward Highway. The reporting party did not know if there were injuries, but said there were children in one of the vehicles.

12:41 - Ambulance requested to the airport to transfer a medical flight crew to and from PSMC.

12:57 - Verbal warning for speed and failure to carry driver’s license given at Seward Highway and Hemlock.

14:15 - SAST requested medics respond to Mile 33 Seward Highway for a vehicle rollover with a 44-year-old man with a minor injury to his arm.

14:20 - 911 caller from Seward’s shipyard reported that a subject stopped in the middle of Nash Road, put his vehicle into reverse and purposely rammed into the vehicle she was in. It then followed her vehicle, driven by another around the shipyard trying to hit them. Officer contacted the caller in Spring Creek Campground and called for a trooper assist. Witnesses were contacted in the area. Investigation continued.

17:23 - Road conditions: Caller requested that a road crew be called out for the S curves on Nash Road.

18:00 - Citation for head light requirement issued to Alan Ross Cordell on Seward Highway at NAPA.

19:08 - Ambulance requested to Gateway Apartments. SVAC and SVFD responded.

19:35 - SAST Dispatch passed on a REDDI report that occurred 20 to 30 minutes before. A white or gray late 2000 Kia hatchback at Mile 19 Seward Highway was swerving acting drunk. The reporting party said they brake checked the vehicle at Mile 15.5 Seward Highway, and the driver pulled over and turned off the lights. Trooper was not available to respond.

19:44 - Verbal warning for trailer light out given on Seward Highway between Hemlock and Sea Lion.

20:15 - Individual reported an intoxicated male at Chevron and requested an officer. There was no one there upon the officer’s arrival.

Dec. 20

09:00 - Individual with the transfer station, requested that Dieckgraeff Road be sanded.

11:28 - Ambulance requested to pick up a flight crew at the airport and provide transport to and from PSMC.

12:21 - Individual turned in a found wallet. They also turned in a phone found in Greg’s Taxi a week before.

15:02 - Caller reported she drove into the ditch at Mile 4 or 5 Seward Highway. She said she did not need a trooper or ambulance.

17:00 - Individual called on behalf of his daughter. She had been walking her little dog near Olympia when a large black dog ran towards her and scared her. The owner came out, was rude and yelled obscenities at her. Officer did not find any dogs loose in the area.

2109 - Ambulance requested by SAST to Seward Highway. Patient refused treatment.
