'Captain's Mast' - Dec. 3, 2015

 


The following is from the journals of the Seward Police Department. Those who have been arrested or summoned are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Nov. 19

01:13 - Verbal warning for speed given to at Third and Jefferson.

03:01 - 911 caller reported his ex-girlfriend told him that she was going to attempt suicide. Officer spoke with the ex-girlfriend, who said she was not suicidal. She was given the phone numbers to the police station and SeaView in case she needed to talk with someone.

03:43 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to Laughlin Way. SVAC/BCVFD dispatched.

05:31 - Verbal warning for tail light requirements given at Seward Highway and Port Avenue.

10:00 - Pacific Parks Apartment requested an officer to do a welfare check on subject at Pacific Park. Officer responded and advised all OK.

10:31 - Officer requested assistance at the high school for a disturbance with a teen. The juvenile was arrested for Assault IV DV and taken to SPD. Subject was released to his mother.

10:52 - Officer spoke with Pacific Park Manager about two possible abandoned vehicles. Officer advised the manager they were putting notices on the vehicles.

12:07 - SAST requested an officer to assist a trooper transport Ryan Jennings, who was arrested for DWLR, from Nash Road to SCJ.

12:28 - Safeway reported that David Bartley stole approximately $20 to $30 worth of deli food, candy and a Red Bull, and left. Summons was to be issued when contacted.

15:20 - Caller reported a domestic disturbance at LBMA. Officer was unable to make contact with anyone at the residence.

17:45 - A woman went into SPD with a sea bird in her arms that she found in the middle of the road unable to fly. Alaska SeaLife Center was contacted and she was advised to take the bird to the back entrance and someone would meet her there.

18:20 - Trooper Sands requested that SPD officers be on the lookout for a 2001 Gray Hyundai XG300. It was left on the side of Nash Road after the arrest of Ryan Jennings and it was now no longer there. SAST advised that it was taken to a residence and parked in the driveway and then was taken by the subject. Troopers found the vehicle at the Farm B&B.

18:33 - Individual reported a reported a motor vehicle accident with damage in front of Dora Way. The second vehicle was parked. The reporting party was given a verbel warning for driving too fast for the road conditions and a the owner of the second vehicle was given a verbal warning for parking against the flow of traffic.

22:25 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to Eagle Lane for a patient with low blood pressure.

23:58 - Citation for failure to carry proof of insurance issued to Chet Brewi at Ballaine and Adams.

Nov. 20

07:21 - 911 caller reported a power line down near Stoney Creek Avenue.

10:04 - Verbal warning for fail to stop at stop sign given at Seward Highway and Nash Road.

10:12 - Verbal warning for erratic driving given at North 72-Hour Lot.

14:31 - Christopher Carreau phoned 911 to report hitting a stop sign with his vehicle at Bear and Resurrection. Carreaux was issued a citation for speed.

17:05 - Management from Evergreen Lodge at Chamberlain Drive reported a walk-away from the lodge. Before hanging up with dispatch, the subject returned and the call was cancelled.

17:35 - Mark Phillip Edwards arrested for DUI/DWLS at Second and B, and taken to SCJ.

20:17 - 911 caller reported a subject was causing a disturbance at Evergreen Lodge on Chamberlain. Officer worked out problem with the staff. Subject did not meet the criteria for Title 47 and had not committed a crime.

Nov. 21

00:19 - While on a foot patrol officers found the door open at Flying Skein. Officers secured the building and contacted the owner.

02:11 - Verbal warning given for speed and failure to use turn signal given.

05:29 - Verbal warning for speed and failure to carry license given near Safeway on Seward Highway.

16:01 - A vehicle lost a wheel in front of Safeway. Officer assisted the driver in getting the wheel on well enough to move the vehicle to the side of the road.

17:41 - 911 caller reported his blue Subaru was broken down on the first bridge on the Seward Highway. He had called Wallace Towing and they would be there in five minutes.

17:47 - Individual called from the Dora Way area about a vehicle parked in the roadway facing against traffic. It was the same vehicle involved in a MVA-D a couple days before. Officer asked the owner to move the vehicle.

18:07 - Verbal warning for inoperable head light given in 3 Bears parking lot.

Nov. 22

00:21 - David Bartley arrested on warrants and DUI/Drugs at Third and Van Buren. Citations issued for operating vehicle with expired registration and failure to carry proof of insurance.

02:00 - AST advised that a 25-year-old male was having back and hip trouble after falling down stairs. The man was at the Clemons cabin, 2 miles up the Lost Lake trail. AST dispatched the LifeMed helicopter. BCVFD fire chief advised.

02:08 - Individual reported she thought she heard a gunshot in the Lowell Canyon area. Officer was unable to find anything suspicious.

05:19 - Officers arrested Anthony Miller on DUI and DV charges on Third near The Breeze Inn.

10:57 - Verbal warning for speed given at Seward Highway and South Harbor.

12:05 - Individual reported she had been without power at Seward Highway since the night before.

12:20 - Citation for failure to provide proof of insurance issued to Alicia Chryss at Seward Highway and Hemlock. Verbal warning for speed.

12:56 - Individual requested an officer speak to individuals at the airport who were ice skating on the tarmac and runway. Officer contacted two separate parties and asked them to stay off the runway.

14:54 - Verbal warning for speed given at Third and B.

15:42 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to Hayden Berlin Road.

17:36 - Verbal warning given for inoperable head light.

20:00 - Individual at Providence Seward Hospital requested to speak to an officer regarding a suspicious death. Medical Examiner requested that hospital call local police department and advised of suspicious circumstances. Officer contacted the staff at the hospital and requested SAST be notified as it is their jurisdiction. Officer advised he would stand by as an agency assist at the hospital until SAST officer arrived.

Nov. 23

07:24 - MPVFD advised of a one-vehicle accident at Mile 21 Seward Highway. The driver was able to get his vehicle out of the ditch and drive home.

17:59 - Verbal warning for head lights off after dark issued to at Seward Highway and Hemlock.

18:09 - Verbal warning for inoperable head light out issued at Seward Highway and Sea Lion.

21:58 - Officer requested city and state DOT road crews be called out for extremely icy road conditions.

23:49 - Individual reported an alarm going off in the area of LaTouche Circle. Officer responded to Olympia Road and found the alarm going off in a motorhome. Officer spoke with the owner who turned the alarm off.

Nov. 24

01:00 - Troopers arrested Jessica Groeneweg on DUI charges and took her to SCJ.

07:34 - Seward Middle School advised of a planned fire drill at 10:20.

07:50 - SAST reported a vehicle in ditch with hazards on at Mile 8 Seward Highway.

13:55 - Earthquake: Magnitude 6.9 on the Peru-Brazil border. No tsunami was expected.

15:57 - Ambulance requested by SAST to stage on Nash Road.

16:21 - 911 caller reported she was taking two dogs to the animal shelter and requested that the animal shelter be notified. Caller said the two animals were chained together running in the middle of Nash Road when she found them.

17:07 - Caller requested extra patrols on Benson Drive before and after school, during lunch and before and after sporting events as people were speeding.

17:29 - Caller reported her medical prescriptions she purchased from Safeway had been stolen by a Safeway employee. Officer responded to Safeway and contacted store manager and a witness. Elida Martinez was given a summons for Theft IV.

17:58 - 911 caller asked a neighbor to call for an ambulance to Crown Point Lodge.

Nov. 25

19:35 - Officer requested to the Evergreen Group Home about an uncooperative resident. Officer was able to negate the situation.

Nov. 26

09:38 - Inmate transported from SCJ to the ER for medical evaluation for the DTs and then returned to the jail. At approximately 14:50 judge ordered inmate release and he was given a ride to the hospital for further treatment.

14:16 - Citation for speed issued to Renee Carol Hannon at Essential One.

21:33 - Individual requested ASLC be contacted after he found an injured bird in his yard. The reporting party took the bird to the rehabilitation center.

Nov. 27

12:59 - Ambulance requested to meet LifeMed at the airport. SVAC dispatched.

15:10 - Verbal warning for head light requirements given at Seward Highway and Phoenix.

17:07 - Citation for failure to provide proof of insurance issued to Matthew Everett Faust at Seward Highway and Resurrection Boulevard. Verbal warning for failure to stop at a stop sign.

17:30 - Verbal warning for failure to dim head lights given at Seward Highway and Sea Lion.

19:58 - Caller reported suspicious activity at Al’s Patty Wagon. Officer contacted subjects and found they were doing construction work and all was OK.

Nov. 28

00:11 - Citation for failure to carry proof of insurance issued to Brittany Hicks at Third and Madison. Verbal warnings for speed and failure to carry license.

00:29 - Verbal warning for crossing the center line given at Seward Highway and Sea Lion.

01:32 - Verbal warning for speed given to at Seward Highway and South Harbor.

01:51 - Verbal warning for speed given at Seward Highway in front of Safeway.

02:19 - Verbal warning for inoperable head light given at Seward Highway and Hemlock.

09:59 - Ambulance requested to meet a flight crew at the airport.

11:14 - Caller reported a bullet hit the road approximately five feet in front of him. Officer met with the the caller and went to the scene, but found no evidence of the occurrence.

11:53 - Three Bears reported that half the store was without power.

13:15 - Individual requested that an officer meet him at the animal shelter about a dog he found running loose on Seward Highway. Officer placed the dog in the pound with food and water.

14:58 - Ambulance requested to Mile 23 Seward Highway.

17:10 - Individual reported she lost her L.L .Bean Visa sometime after she used it at Thorn’s Showcase Lounge the evening before.

17:36 - Officer assisted an individual at Fourth and Washington with his vehicle stuck in the intersection. He was waiting on a tow to move the vehicle.

18:18 - Individual from PSMC requested an officer to assist with a disruptive subject. Subject left the hospital prior officer arrival. Karen Diane Vandervegt was contacted at her home and informed that she was criminally trespassed from PSMC emergency room for one week barring a medical emergency.

Nov. 29

00:27 - Citation for failure to carry proof of insurance issued to Mica Murphy at Mile 1 Seward Highway. Verbal warnings for speed, failure to carry registration and brake light out.

00:45 - Citation for failure to carry proof of insurance issued to Mitchell Ludwig at Fourth and Madison. Verbal warnings for speed and failure to provide proof of registration.

01:07 - AST requested an officer to the Farm B&B for a female causing a disturbance.

04:01 - Individual requested an officer to Second where she and her husband were trying to get some of their things from the reporting party’s mother’s house. Officers spoke with all parties involved. The husband was from Second for 30 days.

04:52 - Individual requested an officer to Dora Way. She suspected medication and jewelry was missing.

07:45 - Individual went into SPD to report she thought someone might be in her house. Officer cleared the home, advising that no one was inside.

10:52 - Verbal warning for failure to illuminate head lights when required given at Resurrection Boulevard and Seward Highway.

11:58 - Verbal warning for speed given at Third and B.

13:39 - Verbal warning for failure to use turn signal given at Resurrection Boulevard and Seward Highway.

14:38 - Ambulance requested to SCCC.

14:56 - Citation for failure to provide proof of insurance issued to Gregory Davis on Dieckgraeff Road. Verbal warning for tail light requirements.

17:28 - A driver and passenger were given a verbal warning not to cross streams and not to trespass on private property on Dieckgraff Road.

18:03 - During the MPVFD tone test it was discovered that MP could not hear SPD Dispatch transmissions. Chief was called and a second test was conducted at 18:06 with the same result (attempted at both consoles), Dispatch could hear MP responders but they could not hear Dispatch. Supervisor contacted and alerted of the problem. At 19:13, ALMR contacted. PTT ID given to ALMAR and he would research, make phone calls and call back with resolution when it became available. At 19:35, Chief with MP informed of ALMR contact. Also informed that MP would be dispatched by SAST until the problem resolved. At 20:02, ALMR called to state their technicians looked at the situation and everything was working on their end. They would be able to conduct more research the next day.

20:30 - Verbal warning for speed given at Mile 2 Seward Highway, .
