'Captain's Mast' - Oct. 22, 2015


The following is from the journals of the Seward Police Department. Those who have been arrested or summoned are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Oct. 8

12:08 - Individual reported teens driving fast on Benson before and after school as well as at lunch time. Reporting party wanted extra patrols in the area.

14:55 - Breeze Inn requested an officer for an intoxicated male who was banging on guest doors and refusing to leave. Officers contacted the subject who left the property.

18:54 - Individual requested an officer for her 10-year-old son who was acting out and wanted to leave. Officer responded and helped calm the youth down. The reporting party was left with contact information for SeaView.

Oct. 9

04:12 - Individual reported someone throwing rocks at his window, possibly using a sling shot. Officer found no one in the area.

05:41 - Citation for tail light requirement issued to Sonny Talens at Mile 1 Seward Highway.

09:00 - AVTEC would do flare and fire training at the AVTEC Fire Training Center.

09:44 - 911 caller reported seeing a flare from across the bay near SMIC.

09:56 - Verbal warning for speed given at Third and Jefferson.

11:15 - Individual reported an adult erotic toy was in the alley behind Hotel Edgewater. Officer placed the item into safekeeping.

13:41 - Citation for fail to wear seatbelt, fail provide proof insurance and expired registration issued to Sharon Finn at Resurrection Campgrounds.

13:57 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to AVTEC Fire Training Center. SVFD/SVAC dispatched and advised patient refused treatment.

14:15 - Citation for fail to wear seatbelt issued to Taylor Stewart at Fifth and Madison.

14:31 - Ambulance requested back to AVTEC Training Center. Fire Chief and SVAC responded to the scene.

21:25 - Citation for tail light requirements issued to Nicole Mercer at Seward Highway and Dairy Hill Lane. Verbal warning for improperly displayed tags.

21:59 - 911 caller, the on-call clinician at SeaView, reported a dispute between a husband and wife. The crisis line had been called. Officer called the female for more information. The husband was located at Tony’s Bar and given a disorderly conduct warning. He was advised no more bars for the evening and went home. His wife was advised to call the department if he was angry or violent when he arrived at home.

Oct. 10

00:44 - Verbal warning for speed given at Mile 1 Seward Highway.

02:20 - Officer arrested Jerry Daniels on DUI charges at the Breeze Inn parking lot near South Harbor. Verbal warning for head light out and no tag lights.

08:02 - Harbormaster’s office reported the phones were out. Upon checking, SPD admin lines were out also. IT notified and Tel-Alaska as well as Soldotna AST.

09:41 - Ambulance requested at the airport to transport Guardian crew to the hospital.

12:36 - 911 caller from Icicle bunkhouse wanted to report something that happened to her when she was a child. Officer provided transportation to the hospital for a voluntary evaluation. She left the hospital before a Title 47 was signed. Officer looked for her and the Title 47 was signed and valid. She was found returned to hospital.

15:59 - Citation for speed issued to Brandy Lawrence at Mile 1 Seward Highway.

19:21 - Trooper requested that an SPD officer assist him in stopping a red Subaru hatchback headed into Seward from Metco. The vehicle was located at Safeway, where the officer assisted the trooper in contacting the driver.

19:26 - Reporting parties, Safeway and Resurrection Taxi, requested an officer to Safeway about a female who had been at the store for an hour and a half. Subject did not feel comfortable riding with a male taxi driver and the only female driver did not wish to transport her. Officer contacted subject and provided her with transportation to the Marina Motel.

21:19 - Officer was requested to Hotel Seward about the same female from above who would not leave the area. Officer transported the subject to PSMC where she was placed under Title 47.

22:32 - 911 caller requested an officer to the Lowell Canyon Road about two males breaking into a trailer.

23:48 - Verbal warning for speed given at Seward Highway and Nash Road.

Oct. 11

01:43 - Citation for failure to carry proof of insurance issued to Irving Salazar at Third and Washington. Verbal warning for speed.

06:01 - Individual at the hospital reported a female left the hospital on foot and requested that an officer to look for her. Officers contacted the subject and transported her to the hospital.

17:22 - Individual, reported a suspicious Chevy Silverado on the dump road. It was packed with supplies and a trail leading from the vehicle to the bunker area. Vehicle was checked and no one was around it. Officer walked toward the creek to see if anyone was there. Officer did not locate anyone.

17:53 - Verbal warning for speed issued on Seward Highway at Airport Road.

20:43 - Verbal warning for failure to stop issued in Essential One parking lot.

21:57 - Officer provided assistance to a motorist at Essential One.

Oct. 12

00:18 - Officers were advised of an intoxicated pedestrian in the alley behind the Ale House. Officers contacted the subject who registered .301 on PBT. He was transported to the hospital for medical clearance then to his room behind the Ale House.

03:03 - Warning for parking against flow of traffic left on a vehicle in the 500 block of Third.

08:30 - American Cancer Society reported a male who had cancer and was suicidal with a gun. Troopers, BCVFD and SVAC dispatched.

12:53 - Individual found a drowned rat at the 4th of July Beach and wanted the number to the Harbormaster’s in case the rat came from a vessel.

15:31 - Individual turned in a found iPhone.

15:53 - Verbal warning for speed given at Seward Highway and Nash Road.

17:18 - Citation for speed issued to Rodney Dale Parish at Safeway.

18:47 - Individual reported a male going through a flatbed truck taking items that belong to the construction people. Officer contacted the subject, who had permission to pick up building scraps.

18:59 - A dog was picked up by an individual and taken to the shelter. Before it was incarcerated, the owner was contacted by the complainant and they picked up the dog from them.

18:59 - Individual reported a white van or Kia that sped 80 miles per hour through the harbor area. It went into the railroad yard and back out again. The driver yelled obscenities at the complainant.

19:50 - Citation for headlight requirement issued to Todd Allen Perez in the Marina Motel parking lot.

20:34 - Verbal warning for speed issued on Seward Highway at Airport Road.

20:56 - Caller from Tony’s Bar reported a younger male acting in a threatening manner and was told to leave the bar. He said the subject had an expired ID and was trying to obtain alcohol. He was also asked to leave Thorn’s. Unable to locate. Cab took the subject home.

22:26 - Caller reported someone at the Swan Nest was knocking on doors on the second floor. Caller thought it sounded like a young man but she couldn’t tell for sure. Officers contacted the subject who was locked out of her room and was trying to wake up her sister.

Oct. 13

02:04 - Verbal warning for speed given at Seward Highway and South Harbor.

08:29 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to First. SVFD/SVAC dispatched.

11:22 - Individual turned in a Washington driver’s license found on the waterfront bike trail.

16:17 - Individual reported a bright blue older wagon, possibly a Kia, tailgating her on her way into town from Nash Road. When she turned off, the occupants flipped her off. No contact was made with the vehicle.

18:06 - Verbal warning for speed issued at the Chamber of Commerce.

19:34 - Verbal warning for speed given at Third and D.

19:45 - Citation for failure to carry proof of insurance issued to Kelli Nicole Hatfield at Fourth and D. Verbal warning for headlight requirement.

Oct. 14

22:52 - Verbal warning for speed issued at Safeway parking lot.

23:07 - Citation for tail light requirement issued to Simon Christopher Swiderski at Fourth and Adams. Verbal warning for speed.

07:58 - Individual reported his white Unnecto Rush smart phone was taken from the Harbormaster’s restroom while it was charging.

14:00 - AVTEC would do live fire and flare training during the day near SMIC.

15:51 - Managers of Pacific Park Apartments reported an abandoned vehicle parked in the trees behind the apartments down the fuel access road. The vehicle was given a notice by the managers on Sept. 10. Vehicle was not stolen and managers would tow it.

20:05 - Individual reported that a subject came home to Second and he was not in the house or his car. Subject was located by phone.
