'Captain's Mast' - May 28, 2015

 


The following is from the journals of the Seward Police Department. Those who have been arrested or summoned are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

May 10

00:57 - Individual went into police department to speak with an officer about a civil issue

01:24 - Citation for proof of insurance issued to Larry Unrein at Seward Highway and Van Buren. Verbal warning for speed.

03:21 - REDDI - Pit Bar reported that an individual just left the Pit Bar heading north and the driver was intoxicated. Information passed on to SAST and officer notified.

06:54 - Verbal warning for speed issued at Seward Highway and North Harbor.

09:37 - Individual reported some people tried to flag her down near the Forest Acres Campground and Hemlock. He thought they may have needed a jump. Officer did not find anyone staying in the campground and no one around Hemlock

09:55 - Verbal warning for failure to stop at a stop sign given at Third and Dairy Hill Road.

13:58 - Caller reported that a motor home was parked in front of Apollo Restaurant and blocking half the roadway. Officer issued a citation to Carmen Bradley for parking in the roadway.

15:01 - Individual reported an electrical box open in the Forest Acres Campground.

23:16 - REDDI - Caller reported a blue Chevy truck which was swerving and stopping in the middle of the road. The driver was seen pulling into the parking lot behind Murphy’s Motel. Officer found the vehicle in the described location. Driver said he was driving that way because he was looking for places to eat. He was not intoxicated.

May 11

00:05 - Kurt Fackler arrested at Third and Madison after FSTs were conducted. Citation issued for failure to carry proof of insurance. Subject taken to SCJ.

04:51 - Verbal warning for speed issued at Seward Highway and Dieckgraff Road.

10:41 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to the Fish House for an approximately 80-year-old woman who fell and was bleeding from her head. Ambulance was canceled because subject was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle.

15:00 - Individual wanted to speak to an officer about a scam with Troy’s Florist that was out of Seward.

16:42 - Lifeline requested an ambulance to Lowell Canyon Road for a 79-year-old woman who was having difficulty breathing.

16:57 - Individual reported a pallet jack in the middle of the highway near City Express. SAST advised and message left with DOT.

18:35 - Caller from Illinois about his overdue parents. The couple were due to check into the Holiday Express that afternoon but had not done so, nor had contacted their son since morning. Officer advised. Individual called back 10 minutes later to say that his parents were contacted.

18:53 - 911 caller reported an intoxicated male who urinated in the middle of the road after leaving the Yukon and drove off in a white/silver Ford F250 pickup truck. Officer patrolled the highway and main roads but was unable to find the described vehicle.

19:59 - 911 caller reported that he had not seen his girlfriend since 7:30 a.m.

20:02 - Individual requested an officer to the property behind Pacific Parks about a young couple who were trespassing on private property.

20:20 - Trooper arrested Dominique Essig on a $500 AST warrant and took him to SCJ.

20:33 - 911 caller reported an intoxicated male on Airport Road who was hitchhiking out of town. The male was swaying into traffic. Officer was unable to find the male.

20:51 - Officer stopped a subject in a vehicle at Swetmann and Bear Drive. Subject was advised that he is criminally trespassed from all Kenai Fjords Tours property indefinitely.

May 12

00:29 - Verbal warning for speed issued at Third and Madison.

02:20 - Citation for failure to carry proof of insurance issued to Cloe Milton on Phoenix Road. Verbal warning for failure to carry registration and tag light requirements.

07:57 - Verbal warning for speed given at Sea Lion and Dimond.

08:18 - Officer requested a case for a disturbance at the middle school involving a student.

10:00 - Fire alarm testing at the Orca Building.

12:08 - Fire alarm testing at the Holiday Inn Express.

13:28 - Earthquake: Magnitude 6.8, on the coast of Honshu, Japan. No report of tsunami expected.

15:51 - Individual requested an officer meet her at Apollo in reference to a subject the reporting party requested be criminally trespassed indefinitely from Apollo. Officer contacted the subject on the sidewalk and advised him of his trespass.

20:25 - Individual requested an officer to the pound so that a found dog could be turned in. Officer left the dog with food and water.

20:37 - Seward Military Resort staff requested an officer to the resort about a yellow lab which had been running around stealing food. The dog was caught and had no tags. Officer took the dog to the pound.

21:31 - 911 caller reported a newer white four-door sedan driving recklessly down Seward Highway. The vehicle passed her near Three Bears and sped towards town. The caller later contacted the officer and said that she believed the vehicle was parked in front of Apollo. Officer found the vehicle in front of Cristo’s but found no one near the vehicle.

22:26 - Burglary alarm from the post office. The postmaster called and said that she had set the alarm off at the request of her supervisor.

May 13

07:21 - Vehicle owner contacted by officer in the 200 block of Fourth and advised not to park against the flow of traffic.

09:14 - Burn permit issued to the city dump for May 13 and 14.

13:29 - SVFD advised that the resident of Bear Drive would be burning in a burn barrel.

14:52 - Ambulance requested to SCCC for 60-year-old man with facial injuries. SVFD/SVAC dispatched.

16:58 - Caller notified SPD that in the rest room near the playground and the pavilion, the water in the sink would not shut off and there was a commode that was stopped up.

20:02 - Citation for speed issued to Floyd Timothy Nix, Jr. at Mile 3 Nash Road.

21:05 - Citation for having a passenger in the vehicle with a provisional license issued to Nicolas Romig Pahno at Third and D. Verbal warning for speed.

23:37 - Verbal warning given at Seward Highway and Dieckgraff Road.

May 14

00:55 - Amanda Gamble arrested for DUI at Seward Highway and South Harbor after FSTs were conducted. PBT 0.111. Gamble taken to SCJ. Verbal warning for fail to carry proof registration.

01:54 - Alaska SeaLife Center security reported an intoxicated male stumbling to his silver car at Third and Railway, and was sitting in the vehicle. Officer contacted the subject , who had not started the vehicle and was planning to sleep in it. Officer provided transport for him to Resurrection Bay Bunkhouse.

02:41 - 911 caller reported a possible physical confrontation between a male and female at Pacific Parks Apartment. Officer responded and although lights were on, no one came to door and no sounds were heard from the apartment.

09:38 - AVTEC would be doing fire training at SMIC.

10:00 - Fire alarm testing at Glacier View Apartments.

10:54 - ARRC dispatch requested an ambulance to the ARRC depot at Port Avenue for a 70-year-old woman who fell with a head injury. SVFD/SVAC dispatched.

11:29 - 911 caller wanted the phone number to PSMC to make an appointment.

11:52 - REDDI - Individual reported a white sedan, unknown plate, that passed in a no-passing just outside city limits traveling southbound into Seward. Officer was unable to locate vehicle.

12:54 - 911 caller requested an officer for a male who had his moped in the back of their truck at the Breeze Inn. Officer advised it was a civil issue.

14:30 - Electric department advised of a scheduled power outage for about 45 minutes in the Camelot Subdivision.

18:27 - Seward Resort reported that a yellow lab was in the area damaging personal property. The dog was picked up the previous week at the same location for the same thing. Officer took the dog to the shelter.

19:32 - Individual reported that someone had tampered with signs she placed at the library.

22:08 - Verbal warning for speed given on Seward Highway at Van Buren.

May 15

00:41 - Verbal warning for speed issued at Mile 2.5 Seward Highway.

00:57 - Citation for failure to carry proof of insurance issued to Ashley Standley at Mile 2.5 Seward Highway. Verbal warning for failure to dim brights.

03:00 - Pit Bar reported an intoxicated male leaving the bar heading south into Seward. Officer found the vehicle parked at the Holiday Inn Express and obtained the subject’s room number front desk. There was no answer at the door to the room.

05:39 - Safeway requested an officer for a male who was sleeping on the bench in their entryway. Officer advised male he could not sleep there.

06:01 - Warning for parking against the flow of traffic left on a vehicle at Fifth and Adams.

06:04 - Warning for parking against the flow of traffic left on a vehicle at Fifth and Washington.

06:39 - Verbal warning for failure to stop at a stop sign issued on Railway near Lowell Point Road.

14:00 - SVFD advised that the resident of Jesse Lee Drive would be burning in a burn barrel.

15:52 - REDDI - It was reported that a black Dodge pickup was driving through town with children in the bed of the truck. Officers did not locate the vehicle.

16:24 - An abandoned vehicle notice was placed on a red 1988 Ford Taurus near Fourth and Adams.

16:33 - An abandoned vehicle notice was placed a 1973 Volkswagen parked at Ballaine and Monroe.

16:55 - Citation for failure to register a vehicle issued to Chad Hinders while parked near GCI.

17:12 - 911 hang up call received from Thorn’s. On call back they advised that an elderly lady fell but was OK and they hung up and did not want any medical.

17:32 - Citation for speed issued to Andrew Curtis Taylor Brough at Third and A. Verbal warning for head light out.

19:12 - Individual reported a dog locked in a red Chevy Astro Van parked on Van Buren. The dog had been in the vehicle barking for about three hours. Officers responded and the dog was no longer barking. An attempt was made to contact the owner

19:56 - Verbal warning given for speed at Third and Madison.

22:43 - AST requested officers to Tiehacker Road to assist with a party with 15 to 20 people. Several under-age drinkers were present. Officers transported Clayton Demmitt for DUI to SCJ.

May 16

01:34 - Officers stopped Kirk Johnson on Third near Wells Fargo and performed FSTs. Johnson arrested for DUI and taken to SCJ.

02:57 - Individual from Chevron called in a vehicle parked and running on the south side of Chevron with a person in the driver seat sleeping. Officer contacted Benjamin Miranda and administered FST. Miranda was given a MICS 6 citation

08:10 - Verbal warning for speed given at Third and Van Buren.

09:04 - Citation for failure to carry proof of insurance issued to Kristy Lynn Sholly on Seward Highway at Dairy Hill. Verbal warning for failure to stop at a stop sign.

10:39 - Verbal warning for speed given at Seward Highway at Sea Lion.

10:52 - Troopers arrested Travis Beal a charge of DV Assault IV and took him from Exit Glacier to SCJ.

13:31 - It was reported that people were parking in front of a fire hydrant near the Flying Skein.

16:15 - Individual reported an alarm sounding at the post office. Officer found the building to be secure. A representative of the post office was contacted and met on scene with the officer.

16:31 - Report received of a confused, young moose swimming into the bay near the culvert. Fish and Game notified.

18:27 - Individual reported a black Expedition swerving and drifting down the road. Vehicle turned onto Van Buren. Officers advised, but were unable to locate the vehicle.

18:38 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to a harbor dock for a male who was just pulled from the water. The first responder to scene canceled ambulance response after contacting the patient who was being cared for and advised he did not want medics.

18:40 - Verbal warning for speed given at Fourth and A.

18:41 - Individual reported a vehicle parked on Fourth in front of Kenai Fjords Tours in the fire lane. Officer contacted two subjects who advised they would move the vehicle.

19:16 - Citation for speed issued to Junghwan Song at Seward Highway and Sea Lion.

19:38 - Verbal warning for speed given at Seward Highway and Dairy Hill Lane.

19:58 - Individual reported a blue Jeep Cherokee parked against the flow of traffic on Fourth in front of Bayside. Officer contacted the vehicle owner who agreed to move the vehicle.

20:54 - Verbal warning for speed given at Sixth and Railway.

21:10 - Verbal warning for speed given at Seward Highway and Dieckgraeff.

21:17 - Verbal warning for speed given in the Safeway parking lot.

21:22 - Verbal warning for operating an off-road vehicle on the roadway given at Second and Van Buren.
