Beals comes in 11th, named most improved

 


Travis Beals of Seward pulled into Nome in 11th place in the Iditarod sled dog race March 18 after last week’s LOG went to press.

Beals was 9 days, 13 hours, 18 minutes and 45 seconds on the 1,000-mile trail from Fairbanks to Nome.

2015 was Beals’ third Iditarod and his 11th place position earned him the Most Improved Musher award.

Winner, Dallas Seavey, took home a $70,000 purse, plus a new $40,000 Dodge truck.

Dallas’ lead dog, Reef, won the Golden Harness award for the most outstanding lead dog.

Second place finisher, Mitch Seavey, with his prize money of $58,600 also took home the Spirit of Alaska award the first musher to reach Ruby.
