Seahawks earn massive win over Monroe

Seward High School's Preston Atwood carries the ball during the team's 56-0 routing of Monroe High School. This was the team's first ever victory over Monroe.

The Seahawk football team made history Saturday when it scored 56 points to Monroe High School's zero, the first time the Seahawks had beaten Monroe. The victory against Monroe isn't the only first for the season. The Seahawks won the season opener against Houston, something they had never done before, said Coach Kelly Cinereski.

Zac Martin finds his way around Monroe and heads for the end zone.

Now 2-2, Cinereski said the team is feeling a boost of confidence heading into a game against Barrow this weekend, followed up by a trip to Valdez. The team lost to a much bigger Ketchikan team and took a loss over Eilsen.

"The team worked really hard off season," said the coach. "A lot of the kids are juggling work and school and there is a lot of sacrifice."

Cinereski said the offensive line has really stepped up and he feels like the team has a good shot at a winning season.
