Artists from Seward's sister city, Obihiro, Japan, have arrived safely and got right to work. Well, first they were treated to an outdoor meal at the home of Seward Mural Society member Dot Bardarson and they were honored with quilts made by Seward's quilters. The image of the Obihiro mural were transferred to the mural surface and the painting began.

The group of American and Japanese painters did take a break long enough to attend the city council meeting Monday night where Mayor Jean Bardarson officially welcomed the Obihiro contingent. The Seward Mural Society members that had previously traveled to Japan showed up at the council meeting in their treasured Japanese kimonos given to them by their sister city friends. Not to be outdone, the Obihiro artists donned lime green T-shirts with the mural design on them.

At press time, the mural is taking shape and will be unveiled Sunday at the Seward Arts Council's annual membership party at the Seward Alehouse.
