Garage Sale

The Senior Center will be holding a garage sale August 15, 1-5pm and 16. Drop off donations anytime.

SeaLife Snippets

Join us for the comic art exhibition Sealife Snippets, in the lobby of the Alaska SeaLife Center from Wednesday August 13-20. The exhibition is put together from the works produced in the recent comic workshops that were held at the Center. Come enjoy comics that will make you laugh or give you insight to the thoughts of the Center’s residents. Also see the “Defenders of the Sea”, superhero characters created by young artists at the kids superhero workshop. The exhibition opening is on Wednesday evening, August 13th at 7pm. Come see the comics and enjoy light refreshments. No admission is required to view the exhibition. The exhibition is available to view during Alaska SeaLife Center open hours.

Classical piano concert on calendar

Seward Arts Council announces a concert event scheduled for August 14th with Jason Farnham performing his signature piano show “An Evening of Contemporary Piano” 6pm at the Rae Building (Seward Marine Center). Admission is free to children 0-12, $5 for students and seniors and $10 for adults.

Author to Visit Seward Community Library and Museum

The Seward Friends of the Library are pleased to present author and retired nurse Cathy Cuenin on Thursday, August 14 for a book signing and Q&A about her book, “The Way I Walk: From Tugboat to Transplant.” Friends of the Library members are invited to attend at 6:30 p.m. Members of the public are welcome to join at 7 p.m. for continued discussion, Q&A and the book signing.

Historian Doug Capra publishes book

The Friends of the Seward Library will host local historian Doug Capra for a Q&A and booksigning for his new book full of Seward stories. Book signing at 7 a.m. at the library.

Open burn permits available

Permitted open burning can once again be approved. This includes the use of approved burn barrels. Please contact the Seward Fire Department for any burning related questions within the Seward city limits.

Market coupons available

Senior Farmer Market Coupons are available at Seward Senior Center, Third and Jefferson, for seniors 60 and older. To qualify monthly income must be below $2,248 and for couples, $3,031. The book of $25 Farmer Market Coupons are redeemable at the Grazing Moose in Seward, and many other farmer markets around the state.

August Derby sale preparation underway

The Silver Salmon Derby Rummage Sale begins with donations and volunteers. Clean out your attic, closet, basement, RV or other storage and bring items in good condition for sale to help support the Seward Senior Center. The time and date set for two days, August 15, 2-5 pm and Saturday August 16 9-noon. Volunteers needed. Spread the word!

Bear Creek Flood Service Meeting

The Seward Bear Creek Flood Service Area will hold a work session at 7:00 p.m., Monday, August 18, 2014. The meeting will be held at the KPB Seward Office at Sea View Plaza, 302 Railway Ave, in Suite 122. The topic will be revision and update of SBCFSA’S by-laws. Light refreshments will be served. Please note the board will hold regular board meetings on the first Monday of each month, and work sessions on the third Monday of each month. Anchorage Community Band coming to town

The Anchorage Community Band wil be playing with the Seward Community Band on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 1:30 at the Seward High School. Tickets will be $5 and available at the door.
