Veteran support offered

Disabled American Veterans Department. Service Officer Gerry Glover will be in Seward from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, July 28 at the Job Center, 809 Second. Gerry will be available to answer questions about VA entitlements and provide free assistance filling out application forms for VA entitlements. DAV membership is not a requirement. Vacation Bible School Returns to Resurrection Lutheran Chruch

Children ages Pre-school – 5th grade are welcome to join our “Weird Animals” VBS. Activities will be held week of July 28th to August 1st 2014 from 9 am to noon at Resurrection Lutheran Church on 4th and Jefferson. Weird animals will be bringing their friend from Minnesota. We expect to have some fun so please come and invite your friends. You may call 224-3628 if you have any questions.

Dixon/Holden 5K coming up

Come run the second annual Dixon/Holden Memorial Tonsina 5K. This year the race will be held Aug. 9 at 10 a.m. Register and pick up a bib race day between 9 and 10 a.m. There is no race fee, so all budget runners and bandit racers should feel free to join in the fun! Insurance savings seminar coming up

On July 16, there will be a seminar at the Seward Senior Center to talk about ways Alaska seniors can lower Medicare Supplement Insurance premiums. Information will be provided about the Affordable Care Act and impact on Medicare coverage.

Anchorage picnic planned for Sewardites

A picnic gathering for Sewardites living in or around Anchorage will be held on July 26 from 11 am to 3 pm at the Sitka Street Park, 1580 Sitka Street, Anchorage. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided. Bring refreshments and a dish. No alcohol is allowed in the park. Open burn permits available

Permitted open burning can once again be approved. This includes the use of approved burn barrels. Please contact the Seward Fire Department for any burning related questions within the Seward city limits.

Market coupons available

Senior Farmer Market Coupons are available at Seward Senior Center, Third and Jefferson, for seniors 60 and older. To qualify monthly income must be below $2,248 and for couples, $3,031. The book of $25 Farmer Market Coupons are redeemable at the Grazing Moose in Seward, and many other farmer markets around the state.

August Derby sale preparation underway

The Silver Salmon Derby Rummage Sale begins with donations and volunteers. Clean out your attic, closet, basement, RV or other storage and bring items in good condition for sale to help support the Seward Senior Center. The time and date set for two days, August 15 2-5 pm and Saturday August 16 9-noon. Volunteers needed. Spread the word!
