The following is from the journals of the Seward Police Department. Those who have been arrested or summoned are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

May 30

00:33 - Verbal warning for speed issued on the Seward Highway near Nash Road.

12:10 - Citation for seat belt requirements issued to Bryan Conrad at Fourth and C.

13:15 - Mountain Haven advised they would be conducting fire drills.

13:40 - Citation for seat belt requirements issued to Veronica Wilde on Fourth.

14:14 - Individual requested officers for an accident involving vehicle damage to Coolidge Drive and Seward Highway.

14:18 - Citation for seat belt requirements issued to Thomas Buchanan on Third by No Sweatt Auto.

15:46 - 911 caller reported she is pregnant with her second child and her water broke.

15:58 - Caller reported large rocks in the road on the Lowell Point Road.

16:04 - Harbormaster’s Office advised a rock slide across the bay.

17:35 - 911 caller reported a female fell and hit her head at the Cruise Ship Terminal. SVAC and SVFD notified. Transport refused.

19:14 - Individual reported a vehicle parked on Jefferson that had been there several days.

May 31

00:10 - Verbal warning for speed, failure to carry operator’s license and failure to carry registration issued at Seward Highway and North Harbor Street.

00:46 - Individual reported large boulders fell into the roadway on Lowell Point Road near the waterfall.

00:53 - Citation for speed issued to Debra Ylijoki at Seward Highway and North Harbor Street.

02:15 - Citation for speed and obscured plates issued Zachary Smith at Mile 1 Seward Highway

15:36 - Verbal warning for improper use of seat belt given to Catherine Roxanna Malcolm-Byars near Fourth and Madison.

16:10 - Individual reported that she was again refused visitation with her grandson.

16:33 - Individual reported that someone in a boat hit his boat in the harbor. He was at Float O Slip 10.

16:37 - Several 911 callers reported that a vehicle went through the window of the Chattermark on Fourth. The driver was uninjured.

22:07 - Individual requested an officer to 4th of July Campground about a group of 3-4 people shooting seabirds on the beach. An officer contacted the subject. Officer checked to area for injured birds but was unable to thoroughly check the area. The case was forwarded to Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

23:35 - Individual turned in a wallet which was found on a bench outside of the Ranting Raven.

June 1

00:01 - Individual requested an officer to the Pavilion in reference to a noise complaint. Officer contacted a group of foreign exchange students. The party was dispersed.

01:17 - Verbal warning for failure to illuminate lights after dark and failure to carry driver’s license given at Mile 1 Seward Highway.

02:01 - Verbal warning for speed and failure to stop at a stop sign given on Fourth in the Kenai Fjords Tours lot.

02:13 - Verbal warning for speed given at Dairy Hill and Seward Highway.

04:33 - Individual requested an ambulance to pick up a patient off the cruise ship at 05:15.

05:16 - Warning for parking against the flow of traffic left a vehicle in the 200 block of Fifth.

05:20 - Two warning for parking against the flow of traffic left vehicles in the 200 block of Fifth.

09:26 - Individual reported her wallet lost.

11:05 - Individual reported a wheelchair and backpack at Third and Railway. Officer was unable to locate the wheelchair.

12:15 - Officer assisted a motorist at Third and Adams by placing cones out while the operator retrieved a spare tire.

14:37 - Alaska State Troopers advised of a gray Toyota speeding and swerving southbound from Mile 10, Seward Highway. Officer was unable to locate the vehicle.

15:06 - Individual turned in a found wallet.

16:26 - Individual from the Harbormaster’s Office turned in a large black duffle bag found on F Float.

17:48 - 911 caller reported that a male had brandished a weapon at someone at the fish camp. The victim of the brandishing left the scene but the suspect was sitting on a black SUV at the beach head. The reporting party said that the suspect was intoxicated and now had been joined by a female and another male. BHP dispatched to the call prior to the 911 being transferred to SPD.

19:30 - Individual turned in a lock and keys he found near Sea Lion.

20:39 - Individual requested an officer to the Breeze Inn lobby reference domestic violence. Micah Kaimilani Kupihe was driving a 2010 blue Ford F150 and may have been intoxicated. SAST notified he may be en route to Anchorage. After the SPD officer was unable to locate the suspect, a warrant was requested for his arrest.

23:23 - Citation for failure to carry proof of insurance issued to Alex Peters at Fourth and Jefferson. Peters was also given a verbal warning for speed.

23:55 - Verbal warning for head light requirements given at Third and D.

June 2

00:33 - Verbal warning for failure to illuminate head lights after dark and failure to use turn signal given at Fourth and A.

00:56 - Verbal warning for speed given at Fourth and Port Avenue.

01:31 - Verbal warning for tail light requirements given at Fourth and Jefferson.

07:09 - Verbal warning for expired registration given on Fourth near Christo’s.

08:52 - Individual requested an officer to Dimond Boulevard for two RVs that were dumping their systems on city property. Officer was unable to locate RVs.

12:54 - Caller reported a white extended cab truck that appeared to have an impaired driver. Vehicle had turned into Essential One. Officer responded and report was unfounded.

19:00 - Caller reported that he forgot to sign out when he returned from a hike up Exit Glacier. He was afraid someone would start a search for him when he was safely out of the area.

20:26 - Caller reported a suspicious vehicle went up to the end of Caines Street. Officer contacted the subject who was clearing his own property

20:27 - Citation for failure to carry proof of insurance and verbal warning for speed issued to David Allen Cook on the Seward Highway near the chamber.

21:54 - Verbal warning for speed given to Alexandra Lynne Theis on the Seward Highway near Hemlock.

June 3

00:22 - Verbal warning for speed and brake light requirements given to Billy Godwin Jr. at Second and Monroe.

02:46 - 911 caller requested an officer to Resurrection Tent Camping about a male threatening his girlfriend with a rifle. While officer was en route the reporting party said that the suspect left in a vehicle headed northbound. Officer stopped the vehicle in the 500 block of Ballaine, contacted the man and secured his weapon. He then spoke with his girlfriend who said that he threatened only himself. Both the girlfriend and the suspect were issued disorderly conduct warnings.

07:29 - Citation for speed issued to Leah Wold at Third and Adams.

09:45 - AST advised they were transporting Daniel Shumaker to SCJ for Assault IV DV from the Cooper Landing area.

10:51 - Officer requested to Parks & Rec behind the Chamber of Commerce for a city vehicle involved in an accident with damage. Officer responded.

13:30 - A cell phone with an additional battery which was found at mile 3.5 Seward Highway was turned in.

13:47 - An automated hold-up alarm received from Seward Resort front desk area. Officer found all to be OK and no assistance was needed.

21:56 - SAST requested that BCVFD respond to Nash Road, about 1/4 mile down, following reports of black smoke. BCVFD contacted a group of people having a brush fire. The fire was extinguished.

22:24 - BCVFD investigated Exit Glacier Road after noticing smoke coming from the area. An attended campfire was found which was within regulations.

22:31 - Verbal warning for speed given at Third and Madison.

23:38 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to Eagle Lodge at Mountain Haven for a 86-year-old man in a slightly unstable condition who is hypoglycemic.

June 4

03:51 - Warning for parking in the roadway left on a vehicle at Resurrection Boulevard and Marathon.

03:59 - Earthquake: Magnitude 5.8, 50 miles southwest of Haines. No tsunami expected.

06:34 - Warning for parking against the flow of traffic left on a vehicle at Fifth and Washington.

10:00 - A driver’s license was turned into the SPD.

11:48 - 911 pocket dial. Voices of young males were heard discussing the way to get down and that they could not hike alone. Multiple tries to call back were unanswered and when finally answered caller stated everything was all right, they did not need help getting down Mount Marathon and all was OK.

14:43 - Verbal warning for speed given at Third and Van Buren.

14:47 - Individual called with insurance information regarding his lost property.

15:19 - Officer assisted troopers with Karen Pleasure at the Girdwood Intersection for reckless driving.

15:40 - Individual turned in medication for destruction.

16:45 - Individual reported a white dog at Fourth and Monroe.

16:45 - Individual reported a horse out on Phoenix Road.

17:56 - Citation for failure to provide proof of insurance issued to Arturo Herrera at Fourth and Jefferson. Verbal warning given for improper display of tags.

19:34 - Citation for failure to carry proof of insurance issued to Christinan Davis at Fourth and B. Verbal warning given for obscured plate.

20:05 - Verbal warning for failure to use turn signal and failure to stop at a stop sign given on Leirer Road next to AVTEC.

21:18 - Citation for failure to carry proof of insurance issued to Susantha Dissanayake at Port Avenue and Seward Highway. Verbal warnings given for failure to yield and failure to stop at a stop sign.

21:38 - Earthquake: Magnitude 5.0, depth 4 miles, 285 miles northwest of Juneau. No tsunami was expected.

21:44 - Earthquake: Magnitude 5.4, depth 1 mile, 285 miles northwest of Juneau. No tsunami was expected.

21:58 - BCVFD reported an unattended fire at the end of Godwin Street and requested troopers to respond. C5 advised that he is going to put out the fire.

22:04 - Individual reported dogs barking in the area of the 1800 block Jesse Lee.

23:52 - Officer requested to assist a trooper at Icicle Seafood bunkhouse for an incident in progress.

June 5

00:29 - 911 hang up call with a female sobbing and a male voice heard in the background. Neither subject made acknowledgment of the dispatcher’s repeated questions then the caller disconnected. Officers did a general security check of the Forest Acres Campground but no contact was made.

12:00 - Medication turned in for destruction.

12:56 - Individual reported a vehicle belonging to SeaView Community Services ran three stop signs since he was behind vehicle which was last seen at Second and D headed south. Officer was unable to locate the vehicle.

13:50 - Providence Seward Mountain Haven advised of a fire drill

13:55 - Individual reported that female was threatening to kill herself at Ravenquest. Reporting party said that the female left residence on foot in an unknown direction. Trooper contacted the subject and took her to PSMCC.

13:55 - Sasha Osborn arrested on an SAST warrant (failure to appear, OC Furnish Alcohol Minor, no bail, six days) at Mile 4 Seward Highway and taken to SCJ.

14:38 - Individual reported kids at Lowell Point waterfall trying to push boulders in.

15:43 - Individual reported two males walking into the woods with what looked like a box with a tent in it.

16:53 - Ambulance requested to Clearview for a 83-year-old woman who was sick.

17:40 - Verbal warning for speed given on Third next to Bayside Apartments.

17:49 - Verbal warning for failure to stop at a stop sign given at Safeway parking lot.

19:09 - Citation for speed issued to Gregory Kastelic at Seward Highway and Hemlock Street.

19:55 - 911 caller requested an ambulance for a 33-year-old woman who was very sick. SFD requested that an SPD officer respond. Officer contacted the female and, after investigation, found case to be unfounded.

20:19 - 911 caller asked if the ambulance that just left was for three kids at First Lake. Caller was told that the ambulance was not for kids.

21:59 - 911 caller reported that a dog was possibly being beaten close to the RV park shower house. Officer found that the dog was at the animal shelter. No animal was being beaten.

23:18 - Verbal warning for speed given at Terry’s Tire.

June 6

00:27 - 911 caller reported a fight in progress at the Yukon Bar and that a male threatened someone with a gun. Officers detained Donald Combs for Assault IV, the victim, who also performed a citizens arrest, and witness were contacted on scene. Combs was permanently trespassed from the Yukon.

00:46 - Officer contacted a intoxicated subject in the alley behind the Yukon. Officer transported the subject to a boat in the harbor. Responsible person was contacted.

07:35 - Employee at the Smoke Shack reported that a black lab with a red collar was loose outside the restaurant. Officer took the dog to the pound.

11:59 - Individual reported a possible drunk driver in a red minivan with Seward Taxi and Tours on side of the vehicle. Workers reported the van sped out of the gates at Alaska Railroad dock. Officer was unable to locate the vehicle.

12:05 - Individual reported that her boyfriend’s gray THS bike was stolen from Buick Apartments. The bike was locked up to the light pole on Third.

14:20 - Individual reported he nicked another boat while coming into his slip at the Small Boat Harbor. Officer responded. Damage was cosmetic.

14:29 - Individual with Glacier View Apartments requested an officer for a situation involving a tenant.

14:30 - Individual reported the Seward Bus Line had been driving erratically on Lowell Point Road then passed another vehicle at Resurrection Bay Seafoods, almost causing an accident.

15:58 - Individual lost her wallet at the Sip and Spin. The wallet was a Coach wristlet tan in color CS print. It contained money, two credit cards, driver’s license.

16:05 - Verbal warning for walking on the railroad tracks given to two people near the airport turn off.

16:17 - Individual reported that a black Jeep was passing vehicles on double yellow and also passing multiple vehicles running one vehicle into the median. Verbal warning given to the driver.

16:35 - A man turned in a wallet that he found while walking in front of the Fish House

18:29 - Citation for speed issued to Sean Caleb O’Connell on the Seward Highway near the bridges.

18:47 - Manager of Essential One advised that an employee quit and kept the key to the business. She was supposed to return it by 17:00.

20:19 - SAST requested a be-on-the-lookout for a 1999 red Chevy Tahoe that turned off at Stoney Creek and went to the RV Park.

20:48 - Earthquake: Magnitude 5.4, approximately 75 miles north of Kotzebue. No tsunami is expected.

20:56 - Citation for speed issued to Markley Allen Stover on Third near Bayside Apartments.

June 7

09:44 - Individual reported an orange checkered cab going 70 mph southbound at around the Pit Bar.

11:41 - The train depot reported an intoxicated female and male with two small children on the train tracks across from Ace. Officer contacted the subjects and took the female to the Holiday Inn Express.

14:14 - Individual reported that a blue muscle car pealed out at Nash Road headed southbound on the Seward Highway.

14:24 - Verbal warning for failure to stop at a stop sign given on Third next to NAPA.

14:28 - Individual reported her wallet was stolen somewhere in the Seward area.

14:36 - 911 caller requested poison control number. Number given. Information given to officer.

14:46 - Citation for illegal parking placed on a vehicle on Railway.

14:52 - Troopers advised that they received a tip that a subject was in the Seward area and has warrant (Violate a DV Protective Order, No Bail).

15:09 - Citation for parking against the flow of traffic left on a vehicle in front of the Chattermark Hotel.

15:20 - Officer requested a case for theft from Mountain View Sports.

15:29 - Officer requested an ambulance to SPD to take a female to PSMCC ER for evaluation.

16:08 - Individual with ARRC police reported that the train ran over two expensive BMX bikes lying on the track at Mile 5. The bikes were pulled from under the train and thrown in the ditch. SAST notified.

19:52 - Citation for speed issued to Tiffany Ann Karling-Hunt at Mile 2 Seward Highway.

20:11 - Individual requested that an officer respond to the end of Caine Street about several subjects on his private property with a campfire. Officers contacted four subjects who were asked to leave and put the fire out.

21:12 - Citation for speed issued to Angelina Burney on the Seward Highway near the airport.

June 8

00:32 - Verbal warning for speed issued at Fourth and North Harbor Street. Passenger was issued a verbal warning for seat belt requirement.

00:47 - 911 caller reported an intoxicated male, who could not take care of himself, just left the Breeze Inn Lounge. Officer contacted the man and found that he was unable to care for himself. Officer took the subject to Breeze Inn and then Hotel Seward where a responsible adult agreed to take care of him.

01:30 - Verbal warning for speed issued at Seward Highway and South Harbor.

01:52 - Verbal warning for failure to stop at stop sign issued in the 300 block of Third.

02:06 - Verbal warning for speed issued on Fourth near the Fish House.

02:27 - Individual reported a large amount of broken glass on the Seward Highway at Mile 5.

04:04 - 911 caller reported that he had just been assaulted by another male in the 200 block of Fourth. Officer contacted the caller outside city hall and they both returned to his residence where they contacted witness and the suspect. Officer gave a disorderly conduct warning for mutual combat to the suspect and attempted to find the caller, who had left the scene, to give him the same warning, but was unable to locate him after searching the downtown and harbor area.

07:13 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to Miller’s Landing for a 26-year-old man having a seizure. He also fell and hit his head.

13:22 - Resurrection Seafoods reported that a vehicle was vandalized with in the previous hour.

14:02 - Individual turned in a found wallet.

15:21 - Individual requested that an officer to do a welfare check on her mother who is in Lupine Lodge at Mountain Haven. The reporting party went to visit in the morning and was refused access to her mother.

17:13 - 911 caller reported she was bleeding from the nose and mouth. She was in the office at Murphy’s Inn.

17:16 - 911 caller requested an ambulance at Thorn’s for a 50-year-old man who fell and hurt his face. He refused transport and took a cab to the hospital. Subject was intoxicated and the officer stood by until the ambulance arrived.

18:27 - Caller reported his 10-year-old son was missing. They were camping at Resurrection Campground. His bike was found earlier. Juvenile was located.
