The Seward Phoenix Log - News of the Eastern Kenai Peninsula since 1966

Takin' a break

RBHS 4.103 | Resurrection Bay Historical Society

Life in the early frontier days of Seward with workers taking a break outside of tent accommodations in early spring circa 1905-1910. As locally produced lumber became available on a larger scale and more housing was constructed, tent residences dwindled. This photo is part of the Stauter/Mongin collection which was made available, in part, by former editor of the Seward Seaport Record Jay Stauter. The first album of the collection was purchased by Stauter at a sale in Anchorage and eventually passed along to Doug Capra, one-time member of the former Seward Community Library Board, who donated it.
