Puppet show at the library

The Seward Community Library Museum will host a puppet show featuring fully articulated marionettes at 6:30 p.m., Friday, June 13. The evening performance of “Beauty and the Beast” is produced by Steven’s Puppets and based on the traditional fairy tale. For information call 224-4082.

Little League clinic set

The Seward Little League will host the annual Peninsula Oilers clinic at 10 a.m., Friday, June 13 at the Little League field. The Peninsula Oilers will demonstrate baseball skills, and offer tips and training to help improve youths with baseball skills.

Pet Grooming available

Baths, haircuts, and claws or nail trimming are available through Saturday, June 14, for all breeds of cats and dogs at 102 Madison St. Get an appointment for your pet in this United Methodist Church fundraiser by calling 422-7273.

Lemonade Day ahead

Mini entrepreneurs prepare for Lemonade Day Alaska on June 14 by registering and learning how to prepare a business plan, manage money and exercise leadership in operating a lemonade vending location. Parents or youth sponsors can still sign up at http://www.alaska.lemonadeday.org and pick up a free backpacks at Seward’s Wells Fargo location or the Seward Chamber of Commerce. Moose Pass festival set

The annual Moose Pass Summer Solstice Festival is set for June 21 and 22. Live music, food, beer garden, bake sale, arts and crafts vendors and a Sunday auction and raffle.

Halibut tourney continues

The 2014 tournament runs through the end of June with daily tickets available for $10 from charter operators, the Seward Resort and the Chamber of Commerce booth from 6 to 8 a.m. every day. Three tickets are available for $25, each participant is limited to two halibut a day per Alaska sport fishing regulations and there are daily prizes for the heaviest fish and prizes for catching tagged halibut. Market coupons available

Senior Farmer Market Coupons are available at Seward Senior Center, Third and Jefferson, for seniors 60 and older. To qualify monthly income must be below $2,248 and for couples, $3,031. The book of $25 Farmer Market Coupons are redeemable at the Grazing Moose in Seward, and many other farmer markets around the state.

Film festival deadlines set

The Balto 48 Hour Film Challenge has officially been changed to the Balto 49 and prompts will be released at 5 p.m., July 18, via the http://www.facebook.com/BaltoFilmFest page. Submissions will be made by e-mail with a 6 p.m., July 20 cut-off time. Screening/judging is Sunday, July 27, in Seward. Must be present to win judge’s choice.

Ukulele classes available soon

Fairbanks musician Ukulele Russ will teach two ukulele workshops from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and from 3 to 4:30 p.m. June 28 at the UAF K.M. Rae Building. Both sessions are aimed at beginning players and participation is first come, first served. Russ also has a 6 p.m. live performance at Resurrect Art Coffee House on that date.

Seahawks boosters play golf

The annual Booster Club Golf Tournament will be July 26 at the Birch Ridge Golf Course in Soldotna and the fundraiser benefits the Seward High School athletic programs. The tournament format is a best ball scramble with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Cost of the tournament is $100, which includes the longest drive contest, the closest to the pin contest, two mulligans and a picnic lunch. Preschool accepting applications now

Seeds of Faith Preschool is accepting applications for the 2014-15 school year. Children may be 3 to 5 years of age. Preschool will meet from 9 to 11:30 a.m., either two or three mornings a week, depending on enrollment and scholarships are available. Marathon committee needs volunteers

The Mount Marathon Race Committee is recruiting volunteers for a variety of tasks over two days. There are assignments for both preparation and race day jobs including indoors chores like registration and T-shirt/patch pickup and outside work like crowd control and traffic control as well as mountain details for logistics as well as timing over the junior, women’s, or men’s races. Online reservations have opened and are required at The Academy Café for evenings Tuesday through Friday between May 16 through June 14. The menu consists of Mediterranean dishes created and presented by AVTEC culinary students.
