SFD volunteers spiffy up

Wolfgang Kurtz | The Seward Phoenix LOG

Seward Fire Department volunteers gave the downtown station a makeover including the installation of a chainsaw carved mascot. The iconic station bell was also moved to a new foundation near the sidewalk in front of the building and given a fresh coat of paint. Lt. Austin Chapman is the chainsaw artist responsible for "TED" which, according to sources, is a firefighter in full gear. Over all the other improvements, the statue attracts the most attention with many passersby who mistake it for a carved bear.
