Seward High School track and field athletes suited up right after the final bell last week for the annual Green and Gold exhibition. Howie Hubbard and Michael Marshall (right) duked it out for the shot put title with Hubbard taking the top spot after an amazing 38 foot 10 inch hurl. Zack Martin got his satisfaction from a first place in the 100 meters and third place Tannen Berry took first in the 300 meter hurdles. Iris Anderson was a speedy 15:15 in the girls 100 meters and Emily Brockman vaulted to first place in the 300 meter hurdles. Masha Hart was top hurler for the lady Seahawks with a 22-foot throw at the shot put.

On the second day, Thursday, Zack Martin took another first in the 200 meters, while Michael Marshall went the distance in the 1,600-meter run. Matthew Moore leaped to glory with 5 feet 2 inches in the high jump and Nicholas Zweifel edged out brother Thomas Zweifel in the long jump. Emily Brockman sped to first in the girls 200 meters and Josephine Braun loped to a victory in the 1,600-meter run. Maria Jackson was highest jumper and Josephine Braun was longest jumper.

All told the Green team scored 79 points to the Gold team's 65. So the Greens got the set up and service for Friday's spaghetti feed and the Gold team got clean up. According to reports, everyone appreciated the feast including a fabulous spaghetti sauce prepared by SHS athletic director Sami King. The track team is travelling to Palmer Friday for a dual meet that day with Colony and Wasilla.
