Support HB 201

Letter to the Editor

Residents of Alaska,

I have grown up in Alaska, and salmon have definitely been a big part of my life.

Salmon are the main food source for many families in Alaska. Making sure these fish are not toxic is very important for the health of all Alaskans. House Bill 201, Pesticides and Broadcast Chemicals, would make sure that pesticides and all broadcast chemicals cannot be spread within 600 feet of drinking water and 150 feet of salmon habitat. This bill would also mean that the public could comment on the process of when and where chemicals could be applied. It is very important to take care of our resources. Future generations have a right to be healthy, and it is our responsibility to make sure that we don’t contaminate their food.

Pesticides and herbicides can be very dangerous to humans and animals. Protecting our drinking water and our salmon habitats from these broadcast chemicals is very important. Please support HB 201 to keep Alaska safe, healthy, and beautiful!
