Young ladies celebrate at the Seward Native Youth Olympics invite last week.

Seward's Qutekcak Native Tribe hosted five teams from all over Alaska at Seward Middle School during the three-day fourth annual Seward Native Youth Olympic invitational that began Friday.

Along with their coaches youths from ages 5 to 19 in junior and senior divisions took part in ten different competitions designed to test body and mind, and drawn from traditional Alaskan hunting and survival skills.

Seward NYO coach James Wardlow organized the event with the help of QNT office staff and was joined by assistant coach Joseph Cross of Chenega Bay, who is attending AVTEC this winter.

Seward NYO competitors will continue to participate in meets until the 44th annual statewide NYO Games, which are set to take place April 24-26 at the Dena'ina Center in Anchorage.
