Seahawks net higher in latest tourney

The 37th annual Valdez Elks Tournament put eight teams on the floor for three days of competition in Valdez. On Saturday after a nail biter against their consistent rivals, the Seahawks pulled off a 42 to 38 victory to take fourth place in the tournament.

The 37th annual Valdez Elks Tournament put eight teams on the floor for three days of competition in Valdez. The Seward Boys lost the first round against Nome, 57 to 36, but nailed down Kotzebue 52 to 29 in the second day to have a shot at fourth place against Skyview. On Saturday after a nail biter against their consistent rivals, the Seahawks pulled off a 42 to 38 victory to take fourth place in the tournament.

The Lady Seahawks brought their best game to the tournament, winning over Kotzebue 25 to 29 in the first day's game. On Friday they then conquered Valdez 46 to 40 to set the stage for a contest with Hutchison for the championship. On Saturday, Hutchison edged them out during most of the game with a narrow lead and then turned up the power in the last minutes of the game. The Lady Seahawks took second place.

Seahawks basketball teams are travelling to Nikiski this week ahead of the Regional semi-finals which are two weeks off.
