Racers ready for '63 Mount Marathon

In 1963, runners tackle Mount Marathon from the starting line at Fourth Avenue and Washington Street.

In 1963, runners tackle Mount Marathon from the starting line at Fourth Avenue and Washington Street. About 30 racers turned out for the 48th running of the second oldest race in North America, which was first formally organized in 1915. The race has been run annually since, including 1964, the year of the Great Alaska Earthquake.
