The following is from the journals of the Seward Police Department. Those who have been arrested or summoned are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Jan. 16

01:44 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to the 1000 block of Second for a female who was not alert and experiencing breathing difficulties.

02:30 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to the 1000 block of Second for a female who was disorientated and requested transport to the hospital.

08:54 - 911 misdial.

11:41 - Individual reported a possible intoxicated driver in the ditch at Second and Van Buren. Reporting party said the vehicle was a late ’90s Dodge Ram pickup, unknown plate. Officer contacted Michele Spiers at the Orca Building, arrested her for DUI and DWLR and took her to SCJ.

15:29 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to Laughlin Way for a male having a seizure. BCVFD/SVAC dispatched. AC with BCVFD also advised that a male on scene was having difficulty breathing.

20:27 - Ambulance requested by SAST to Eads Way for a male who sustained a head injury after a collision with a vehicle. SVAC/BCVFD toned out.

21:09 - Citation for failure to carry proof of insurance and warning for failure to stop at stop sign issued to Erik Nielsen at No Sweatt Auto.

22:04 - Individual requested that an officer do a welfare check on a person because she was not answering her phone while on call for PSMCC. Officer made contact in the 300 block of Sixth and person said all was fine.

Jan. 17

01:00 - Citation for expired registration, and verbal warnings for failure to stop at stop sign and to carry proof of registration issued to Kurt Fackler on Seward Highway and Resurrection.

08:00 - Parks and Rec reported a vehicle at Resurrection Campground that appeared to be abandoned.

11:00 - SAST advised of a vehicle that was driving on Nash Road towards SMIC. Reporting party, who called AST initially, called Seward dispatch and advised that the vehicle turned off of Nash Road into a trailer park just past Johnson Road. AST advised.

11:57 - Verbal warning for headlight requirements given at Seward Highway and Nash Road.

12:07 - Verbal warning for passing on right given at Third and Jefferson.

13:44 - Fire officer responded to the 600 block of Port Avenue for a possible fuel spill.

15:10 - SAST advised of possible flooding of the Seward Highway between mile 18-25.

17:22 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to Nash Road for a female with an unknown problem.

18:02 - Officer arrested Thomas Pearce on a warrant – furnishing alcohol to person under 21 three counts, bail $500 – and remanded him to SCJ.

18:05 - 911 callers reported that the fire alarm at the senior center had been pulled by accident. SFD responded and resent the alarms.

18:43 - Individual reported losing her silver watch and ring at AVTEC gym.

Jan. 18

00:48 - Verbal warning for expired tags and failure to register vehicle issued at Seward Highway and Port Avenue.

01:23 - Verbal warning for speed issued at Fourth and North Harbor. Officer also performed FSTs and found the subject to have a PBT of .056.

02:40 - SAST requested assistance in locating several individuals involved in a fight at the Pit Bar. Officers contacted a vehicle that they believed was involved in the incident. Driver and passenger gave officers information that led them to find two subject who were walking at Fifth and A. Officers detained both men while a trooper responded. Both men were advised by the trooper that they were trespassed from the Pit Bar for life and given a verbal warning for disorderly conduct.

08:30 - Individual requested advice on domestic violence. She advised that her daughter was assaulted several days ago by a Seward-area resident. The assault occurred in the Knik area of the Mat-Su Valley. MATCOM was notified. They also spoke with the complainant. Since the victim and the complainant were in a hotel in Anchorage, MATCOM requested APD to do the interview.

10:23 - Individual requested an officer to the Breeze Inn to investigate criminal trespass into one of the rooms. The maintenance man attempted to enter a room and found the chain lock secured. No one would come to the door. He went the office to make sure the room was not rented and on his return to the room the door was unlocked and the occupant gone. There was no suspect information.

10:59 - Verbal warning for driving with lights off in low visibility given on the Seward Highway.

11:10 - Audible alarm in the panel at the senior center was called in. Fire chief silenced the alarm and would check it later.

16:46 - Verbal warning for driving with headlights off and lane usage given in the Breeze Inn Hotel parking lot.

16:50 - Citation for headlight requirement issued to Irina Miller next to Ray’s Restaurant.

17:06 - Verbal warning for white light to the rear given on Fourth next to the Bakery.

17:13 - 911 misdial.

17:30 - Officer served a summons to Tasha Iverson at 102 Benson Drive. Iverson was also advised that she is trespassed from Safeway for one year.

17:35 - Citation for speed issued to Arika Benjamin at Third and C.

21:19 - 911 caller said that his phone would not stop ringing. Caller was advised to unplug his phone until someone from TelAlaska could assist him.

Jan. 19

00:13 - Verbal warning for failure to stop at a stop sign given in front of True Value.

00:41 - Verbal warning for failure to stop when exiting a parking lot and failure to use turn signal given on Seward Highway near Chevron.

00:55 - 911 caller from PSMCC requested that an officer drive by his residence at Glacier View Apartments to make sure he did not leave a candle burning in the window. Officer responded and advised that the candle was not lit.

01:16 - Verbal warning for failure to stop at a stop sign given on Seward Highway just south of Sea Lion.

02:37 - Investigative stop: For backing into closed areas at Second Lake.

09:04 - 911 misdial.

10:24 - 911 caller reported that he found a friend in the water at Float E Slip 12. He had been looking for his friend, who was staying on reporting party’s boat in the harbor, because he was due to meet him the night before. Deceased is Patrick James Richard showing an Anchorage address.

11:46 - 911 misdial.

11:53 - Individual reported that she went for a walk along the coastal trail, up Main Street to Port. Somewhere along the way she lost her Kentucky driver’s license

12:37 - Individual reported that two vehicles were parked at the Iditarod monument, and the occupants were passing a bottle around and drinking. Officer found a wedding party with a designated driver.

15:30 - Verbal warning for failure to come to a complete stop given at Fifth and Adams.

19:43 - Individual reported hearing a female screaming at Third and Washington. Officer the contacted the female who was threatening suicide. She was taken to PSMCC ER.

23:30 - Verbal warning for failure to stop at a stop sign given at Third and Madison.

23:51 - Individual reported hearing three bangs (possibly gunfire) about five minutes before near his residence on Phoenix Road. Officers patrolled the area and spoke with the reporting party. No signs of disturbances were observed and the reporting party was advised to call back if he heard them again.

23:58 - Individual reported seeing wanted Tamara McDaniel at Gateway Cheveron. Reporting party said that she left in a blue van which pulled into the northern parking lot. Officer attempted to locate McDaniel. At 01:10, after following several leads, officers contacted McDaniel and Matthew Medlin. Medlin was arrested for Hindering Prosecution I and taken to SCJ.

Jan. 20

00:10 - Verbal warning for taillight requirements given at Nash Road and Rabbit Run.

01:10 - Officer arrested Tamara McDaniel, on a $3,000 an Anchorage AST warrant. McDaniel was taken to SCJ.

15:44 - 911 hang-up call.

16:29 - Earthquake: Magnitude 6.5, Tonga Islands, depth 21 miles. No tsunami expected.

19:49 - 911 misdial.

21:04 - 911 open-line call.

21:35 - SCC requested an ambulance for a male who had had multiple seizures.

Jan. 21

00:26 - SPD officer responded to a trooper request to respond with him to Bear Paw for a custody dispute in progress.

02:45 - Officers stopped at the Seward Bus Line after noticing the door to a bus was open. A message was left with the Seward Bus Line representative and the officer secured the bus.

05:57 - Earthquake: Magnitude 4.0, depth 17 miles, 30 northwest of Palmer. No tsunami was expected.

07:59 - Individual reported a rockslide on Lowell Point Road.

08:23 - Seward Elementary advised they would be having a fire drill.

10:54 - Juvenile was summoned for possession of tobacco.

15:28 - Individual wanted to speak with an officer regarding a tenant at Glacier View Apartments.

16:25 - 911 caller reported that her vehicle was just backed into. Officer issued PAR Forms to both parties.

16:57 - Individual requested to speak to an officer about two abandoned vehicles close to his property in the 200 block of Sixth.

16:59 - 911 misdial.

17:46 - Off-duty officer reported that his 14-year-old son was contacted by a male at about 16:45. The male knocked on the door asking him to open the door. After the son did not open the door the male left in a white van. Officer spoke to the reporting party.

Jan. 22

08:15 - Individual reported a newer model vehicle that had been parked in the pullout at mile 10 for several days.

16:31 - Individual reported the theft of fuel from a residence in the 400 block of Fourth.

18:46 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to Lakestar Lane for a male complaining of abdominal pain.

Jan. 23

00:32 - Verbal warning for speed issued at Seward Highway and Jefferson.

07:21 - Officer reported that the vehicle, reported earlier by Parks and Rec as being abandoned at the beachfront camping area, had not been moved.

13:58 - Individual turned in a ring that was found at city hall.

17:50 - Trooper arrested Timothy Funches on a felony contempt of court warrant at about Mile 44 Seward Highway. The subject was taken to SCJ.

19:50 - 911 caller from Samson Tug and Barge reported that a man at Freight Dock Road had a broken leg.

19:55 - Citation for head light violation, with the driver’s side being dark, issued to Dakota Tennisonon on Seward Highway near the Chamber of Commerce.

20:24 - Verbal warning for speed given near Third and the Harbor office.

20:37 - Citation for head light out issued to Brian Ray near Seward Highway and Sea Lion.

Jan. 24

00:47 - Yukon Bar contacted SPD dispatch to report that they had just asked a subject to leave the bar and wanted him permanently trespassed from the premises. Officer responded to the Yukon and the subject was gone.

12:31 - Individual reported that her vehicle was disabled by Airport Road and that it would be moved on the weekend.

13:05 - 911 misdial.

15:55 - Citation for speed issued to Justin Hepker at Seward Highway and Airport.

16:50 - Individual reported finding a male’s wallet in the Small Boat Harbor next to the boat launch. Officer retrieved the wallet.

17:37 - Individual reported a female dressed in dark clothes falling asleep on the bench at the post office. Officer contacted a female who was waiting for someone to pick her up.

17:59 - Verbal warning for crossing the center line given at Ash and Hemlock.

18:24 - 911 open-line call.

18:27 - Verbal warning for operating vehicle with out head lights illuminated given at Third and Jefferson.

19:49 - Troopers arrested Devin Sherwood for DWLS and MICS VI at mile 53 Sterling Highway and took him to SCJ. Troopers arrested David Norton II for MICS VI and a warrant and took him to SCJ.

20:00 - 911 open-line call.

21:33 - 911 caller reported that someone with a headlamp just went into a residence in the 1000 block of Second. Caller said that he didn’t believe that anyone was suppose to be there. Officer contacted several individuals at the residence. Officer then spoke to the owners or the residence who confirmed that they had allowed people to stay there.

21:44 - Verbal warning for operating with head lights not illuminated given at Third and Madison.

22:53 - 911 caller said she was witnessing a fight near the Army Rec Camp in which two individuals were kicking one individual who was on the ground. Officers and troopers responded. SVAC/ SVFD were dispatched. Troopers located and held Rodrick Smith who was identified as involved in the fight, was not treated for injuries and was found to be in violation of the conditions of his parole. After speaking with a parole officer, Smith was arrested and taken to SCJ. Another subject, identified as Andrew Courser, was taken to the hospital by officers and later taken to SCJ for MIW IV, MICS VI and disorderly conduct. A third subject was taken to his residence.

23:56 - Anchorage weather advised that there would be a blizzard advisory in effect with high winds from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday

Jan. 25

00:15 - 911 misdial.

02:06 - 911 open-line call. Location showed as Oak Street, Mountain Haven. No answer or machine upon call back. Mountain Haven nurse was called and reported that there was no emergency and they were not aware of anyone having called 911. Officer did a security check and found nothing unusual.

08:09 - SAST requested an ambulance to Mile 18 Seward Highway for a female complaining of severe neck pain due to a one-vehicle accident.

14:44 - Individual reported that a male fell down in the street in the 300 block of Fourth. Officers gave the subject a ride to his residence.

15:08 - Citation for speed issued to Debra Leigh Anne Moradian near Third and B.

15:10 - 911 caller reported a fire alarm going off near her apartment at Glacier View Apartments.

18:04 - Citation for head light requirements issued on Seward Highway next to Safeway.

22:53 - Multiple callers from Lowell Point reported that they heard loud noises that sounded like gun shots. Troopers were notified and SPD officers responded. They contacted a subject on Lowell Point Road within city limits who was shooting off fireworks. He was issued a verbal warning for disorderly conduct and one of his fireworks was confiscated.

Jan. 26

00:11 - During foot patrol an open door was found at Brown & Hawkins. After the owner and officers walked through building they found that nothing appeared suspicious.

00:40 - Verbal warning for failure to come to complete stop at stop sign and for failure to use turn signal given on South Harbor Street.

01:39 - Individual notified SPD dispatch that Joseph Dotomain was at the Yukon Bar. Officers arrested Dotomain on an outstanding warrant and took him to SCJ.

03:28 - Caller reported there was an intoxicated male acting belligerent in Marathon Hall at AVTEC dorms. Officers issued the subject a verbal warning for disorderly conduct.

11:07 - Citation for speed issued to Simon F. Reutov on Seward Highway at the bridges.

13:26 - Lowell Point Road was down to one lane due to rocks in the road about half way to Lowell Point.

14:13 - Individual reported that he found an eyeball and what looked like fat on the beach near the shipyard. Officer responded and determined it was the remains of a fish.

15:04 - Seward Ship’s Dry Dock reported that there was a water line leak underground from the fire hydrant to an unknown location.

15:41 - Individual reported a vehicle swerving in and out of its lane and going 20 mph from Jefferson to Safeway. Reporting party said that the vehicle was parked at Safeway. Officer was unable to locate the vehicle.

18:49 - Troopers arrested Jacob Sutphin on a warrant (Failure to Appear to Trial Call, Bail $50) and took him to SCJ.

19:12 - Troopers requested an SPD officer assist for FSTs in traffic stop at Fourth and B. Officer assisted troopers.

19:25 - Troopers arrested Nicholas Sparks at Fourth and B for DUI and took him to SCJ.

21:17 - Troopers advised of a 911 call from Brownell Street with a female crying. After investigation it was found that the caller’s husband was trying to kick her out of the house. Caller advised that she just wanted to put her baby to sleep and go to sleep herself. Officers contacted the caller to make sure all was OK.
