Captain's Mast - Jan. 2, 2014


The following is from the journals of the Seward Police Department. Those who have been arrested or summoned are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Dec. 19

13:39 - Public Works advised that road-closed signs were on Fourth from Adams to Railway for morning snow removal.

15:18 - Individual reported leaving her cell phone in the rest room of the North Star Clinic and was currently inside a residence on Sixth. While reporting the lost cell phone she found it in her coat pocket.

15:30 - Individual reported ravens getting into trash in the alley between Second and Third near Monroe. Officer contacted the resident and issued a trash warning.

17:26 - Individual reported that she took a restraining order out on an individual and that he was outside her door. Officer responded and served the subject the exparte protective order.

19:20 - Verbal warning for tail light requirements given near the three bridges. Subject was advised to drive home with flashers on.

19:37 - Verbal warning for head light violation given on the Seward Highway near Resurrection.

Dec. 20

04:13 - Citation for parking in a marked parking-prohibited area due to snow removal issued in front of Seward Alehouse.

04:19 - Citation for parking in a marked parking-prohibited area due to snow removal issued in the 100 block of Fourth.

09:18 - Individual reported a vehicle was parked in the parking lot of Glacier View Apartments and was the way of snow removal. Officer was unable to contact the registered owner. An abandoned vehicle notice was left on the vehicle.

11:03 - 911 open-line call.

11:10 - Individual reported that her Christmas bonus was stolen from the post office.

12:46 - PSMCC advised that they would be conducting a fire drill.

14:34 - Individual reported that his credit card number was misused and that his bank requested a case number.

15:34 - Fire chief reported that the fireboat John Foster was winterized and was only available for extreme emergencies and must be authorized by the fire chief or deputy fire chief.

17:27 - Trooper arrested William Saucier for driving while license revoked, MICS VI and a license limitation violation in the Three Bears parking lot and took him to SCJ.

18:08 - Verbal warning for speed given on Fourth near Murphy’s Motel.

18:24 - Verbal warning for speed given on the Seward Highway near the Chamber of Commerce.

18:38 - Verbal warning for driving with parking lights illuminated in lieu of head lights given on Third near No Sweatt Auto.

18:38 - Citation for inoperative head light Issued Jeremiah Morris on Seward Highway just past Knots-So-Fast. Verbal warning given for inoperable trailer light.

21:36 - Trooper arrested Moses Jordan for driving while license revoked near the Breeze Inn Hotel and took him to SCJ.

Dec. 21

00:22 - 911 pocket dial.

11:39 - 911 open line at from the Senior Center. On call back the phone disconnected three times. On the last time it was busy. Officer responded and could find nothing wrong. The custodian said that children were playing in the elevator and may have hit the emergency button.

12:16 - Verbal warning for speed given on Aircraft Road.

14:14 - Individual from AVTEC requested an officer to respond to the office at Third and Madison to pick up drug paraphernalia.

16:29 - Citation for speed issued to William Zollinger in the Chamber of Commerce parking lot.

16:49 - Verbal warning for failure to illuminate headlights and carry proof of registration given in the Safeway parking lot.

17:39 - Guardian Security advised of a fire alarm sounding at Glacier View Apartments.

18:29 - Trooper arrested Gordon Sills Jr. on an SAST warrant for failure to appear, and was taken to SCJ.

20:35 - 911 caller reported a car speeding toward town down “the road by the water,” but could not provide a description of the vehicle. Officers patrolled Ballaine and the surrounding area, but did not observe anyone speeding.

22:33 - SAST reported a vehicle hit another vehicle and ran. Driver Daniel A. Spiers was believed to be intoxicated. SAST requested SPD officers to keep a look out for vehicle inside city limits. Trooper requested an SPD officer assistance at Spiers’ residence. Hughie Wilder III arrested on warrant at residence and taken to SCJ. Spiers arrested for leaving the scene of an accident, DWLR, DUI and refusal to submit to breath test, and taken to SCJ.

22:47 - Verbal warning for speed given at Seward Highway and Hemlock.

Dec. 22

00:09 - Verbal warning for speed and failure to carry operator license given at Seward Highway and Sea Lion. A juvenile passenger issued a citation for MCA (.038) after being taken to a residence.

01:23 - Verbal warning for failure to dim high beams given at Fourth Avenue boat launch parking lot.

01:35 - Verbal warning for speed and tail light requirements given at Seward Highway and Aspen.

01:56 - Verbal warning for tail light requirements and no seat belt given at Nash Road and Seward Highway.

02:15 - Verbal warning for speed given at Chevron.

09:48 - Ambulance requested at the airport for a medical transport.

13:11 - Individual requested an officer about an attempted break in to his sailboat moored in the Small Boat Harbor. Entry was not gained to the sailboat and the only damage was to the wooden winter cover.

13:20 - Ambulance requested at the airport for a medical transport.

19:37 - Officer spoke to the driver of a vehicle that was parked on the side of the Seward Highway just past Hemlock. Driver said that all was OK. She just pulled off to use her cell phone.

Dec. 23

00:00 - Verbal warning for speed given at Seward Highway and North Harbor Street.

01:26 - Verbal warning for tail light requirement issued.

12:30 - AST requested SPD to assist with a locate. Officer contacted the individual and requested that he contact AST.

12:46 - 911 open-line call.

13:44 - Individual reported several people were smoking marijuana at Second Lake. Officer was unable to locate the subjects.

18:50 - Verbal warning for head light requirements given on Dairy Hill Road near the Lagoon.

20:14 - SCCC advised that they would be testing the fire alarm system at the facility and that no response was needed.
