Seward General Hospital - Operating Room, 1972

Yes, there was a time operations were regularly performed in Seward. Construction of the hospital started in 1956 and it officially opened in 1957. Originally it as operated by the Women's Division of Christian Service of the Methodist Church, but that organization withdrew its financial support in 1958 and the city assumed responsibility for the hospital. It leased the hospital to a nonprofit organization, formed to operate the hospital. Seward General was open from 1957-1998, and was located just north of the present Providence Seward Medical & Care Center.
