Warming weather Friday ushered in freezing rain on bare ground and roads in the Seward area.

Warming weather Friday ushered in freezing rain on bare ground and roads in the Seward area. It was a potent combination that put vehicles in off the road and in ditches from Nash Road to Anchorage. Emergency vehicles and law enforcement were not exempt from the fearsome conditions, with Alaska State Trooper and local fire department vehicles sliding off the highway. Parents were advised on short notice of school closures throughout the Kenai Peninsula Borough and workers were sent home early across Southcentral Alaska. By Sunday, Seward and vicinity were blanketed by the first persistent snowfall of the winter.
