The following is from the journals of the Seward Police Department. Those who have been arrested or summoned are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Nov. 4

03:13 - Verbal warning for speed given at the Safeway parking lot. Subject also advised to get an Alaskan driver’s license.

03:51 - SAST called advising an ambulance was needed for an attempted suicide at Bay View Trailer Court. All units were to stage until AST arrives on scene. At 04:05, SAST advised trooper on scene that medical personnel may come into the trailer. Responders advised. At 04:08, SAST called and reported the patient had multiple lacerations to the left arm. Responders advised and PSMCC notified.

Nov. 8

02:26 - SAST dispatched MPVFD for a vehicle accident at Mile 37 Seward Highway. Matthias Walgenbach arrested for DUI and DWLR and taken to SCJ

13:49 - Citation for speed issued to Thrushal Kargi at Third and B.

14:02 - 911 misdial.

15:27 - Verbal warning for speed given at Third and Van Buren

16:24 - 911 misdial.

21:10 - SPD received a call on the business line to report a fire alarm that was registering in the 300 block of Fourth. Fire officer advised and responded to reset the alarm panel.

Nov. 9

01:02 - John Hillborn arrested for DUI at Chevron parking lot and taken to SCJ. Verbal warning given for speed. (PBT .108)

08:36 - Citation for speeding issued to James Friedman on Third between A and B.

08:42 - Individual reported that someone attempted to steal his vehicle after finding it in the middle of road. Officer responded and confirmed that it appeared someone had been inside the vehicle but nothing was stolen or damaged. No charges were filed.

09:48 - BCVFD and the Marine Fire Chief advised that they would be doing live fire training at AVTEC/SMIC area and would be responsible for any signs of smoke in that area.

11:13 - A black check book containing checks was found in the restroom at city hall by an employee.

11:29 - Verbal warning for speed given at Sea Lion and Diamond.

12:48 - Individual reported that gasoline was missing from his truck and had possibly been stolen. Officer contacted the reporting party at his residence. Officer reported that about $40 worth of gas had been stolen sometime between Oct. 30 and Nov. 9.

13:24 - Individual reported his blue Samsung Galaxy S3 cell phone was missing. He last had the phone at the Alehouse or Yukon.

17:46 - Verbal warning for speed and swerving over the center lane given at Third and South Harbor.

17:52 - SFD requested to the 300 block of Fourth for an automated fire alarm sounding at the fire station.

21:41 - Verbal warning for headlight and taillight requirements given in the 200 block of Third.

22:09 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to Moat Way for a female who had a possible broken hip. SVAC/BCVFD responded.

Nov. 10

00:16 - Verbal warning for speed given at Seward Highway and South Harbor.

00:54 - Verbal warning for speed given at Seward Highway between the North and South Harbor streets.

00:56 - Verbal warning for speed given at Safeway parking lot.

02:05 - Verbal warning for tail light requirements given Safeway parking lot.

08:59 - Individual requested a welfare check on the driver of a red/white 4x4 vehicle which had been parked in front of the Train Wreck with it’s headlights on for the previous few hours. Officer contacted the subject who was sleeping in his vehicle with the engine off. All was OK.

12:16 - 911 misdial.

14:30 - Individual reported her brown snap-closure wallet was missing. The wallet contained a checkbook, about $40, credit cards and a driver’s license. It was last seen at Safeway. At 14:38, the reporting party called and said that she found her wallet in her vehicle.

16:05 - Guardian Flight requested an ambulance to the airport for transport.

16:06 - SVFD requested to 300 block of Fourth for an automated fire alarm sounding at the fire station.

18:38 - 911 caller reported that a person was harassing her at the Essential gas station. An officer responded and spoke with the caller.

Nov. 11

06:58 - Verbal warning for fail to stop at stop sign given at Oak Street.

08:22 - Individual reported a pickup truck in the ditch near the BCVFD station, no injuries. SAST advised.

09:22 - Earthquake: Magnitude 4.0, 55 miles northwest of Homer. No tsunami expected.

10:45 - 911 caller wanted the number for the animal shelter for loose dog on highway. Reporting party was ACO number.

13:02 - SAST requested an officer to assist a trooper at Bear Creek Trailer Park. Darius Wallace arrested for on an AST warrant ($500, FTA OC DWLR) and taken to SCJ.

13:16 - Power outage reported along the 400 block of Second.

14:36 - Officer responded to a report of someone trying to break into the residence in the 200 block of Second.

14:56 - Individual at First Student reported that the roof at the Seward Fisheries building was blowing off. Dispatch notified person in charge at the plant.

21:31 - SAST requested an officer to assist a trooper at Salmon Creek Trailer Park for a warrant service.

22:02 - SAST requested an officer to assist a trooper at Salmon Creek Trailer for a disturbance. SAST cancelled just as the officer arrived.

22:05 - Earthquake: Magnitude 6.6, 150 miles southwest of Bering I. Komandorski. No tsunami expected.

Nov. 12

00:38 - David Landgren arrested for DUI, Driving While License Revoked and Failure to Install IID Device at Chevron with PBT .209 and taken to SCJ. Landgren also given a verbal warning for speed.

03:58 - Report of a residential burglary alarm sounding at residence on Fifth. Officer responded and advised that all windows, doors and the garage were secure. The owner was not at the residence.

05:30 - Individual reported that approximately 30 minutes before, a black super duty duel wheel truck almost hit his bumper near Seward Highway and Nash Road. The truck then passed him while heading southbound on Seward Highway in the 45 mph zone.

10:15 - The high school would be doing a scheduled fire drill.

10:44 - 911 pocket dial.

11:15 - Individual went into SPD to report that there was a vehicle outside with an infant and toddler inside. Officer located the vehicle and advised the driver/parent of the dangers of leaving children in the vehicle unattended.

14:06 - Individual reported that an unoccupied truck was parked along Nash Road just north of SMIC.

16:20 - 911 misdial.

17:02 - Verbal warning for failure to stop at stop sign given at Evergreen and Ash.

17:06 - Citation for failure to stop at a stop sign issued to James L. Ward Jr. at Birch and Diamond.

17:20 - Individual reported a suspicious male walking around the new electric substation by the elementary school. Subject was wearing a gray Carhartt hoodie and stocking cap. The vehicle was an ‘80s model pickup with a camper. No contact was made with the subject.

17:45 - Verbal warning for speed given in the 1000 block of Fourth.

18:58 - Earthquake: Magnitude 5.7, 90 miles southwest of Adak. No tsunami expected.

19:14 - Individual reported that a silver Toyota Corolla was parked in the roadway and was a traffic hazard on Resurrection Boulevard just off of Bear. Officer spoke with the registered owner who said he would move it to a safer location.

20:49 - Verbal warning for headlight out given in the Chamber of Commerce parking lot.

23:26 - Citation for failure to carry proof of insurance issued to Jonah Michael Swiderski at Seward Highway and Dairy. Verbal warning given for failure to stop at a stop sign.

Nov. 13

01:03 - Matthew Dotomain arrested for DUI at Chevron and taken to SCJ. (PBT. 219) Dotomain issued a citation for open container.

09:00 - AVTEC advised that they would conduct alarm testing on all AVTEC property throughout the day and the next day.

10:16 - Excel advised that they would conduct alarm testing for the next hour at the library/museum.

13:52 - Excel advised that they would conduct alarm testing at Polar Seafoods.

15:45 - Officer requested to the city hall utility counter for a customer creating a disturbance. Officers responded and situation was resolved.

18:45 - 911 misdial.

19:14 - Verbal warning for failure to stop at a stop sign given in the 300 block of Ash.

19:50 - 911 misdial.

20:26 - 911 caller requested an ambulance at Mountain Haven Lupine House for a female who was feverish and lethargic.

23:35 - Citation issued for failure to carry proof of insurance given to Jack Thomas Tuttle on Fourth near AVTEC. Verbal warning given for brake lights and failure to carry driver’s license.

Nov. 14

07:25 - 911 pocket dial.

10:15 - Individual from SVFD said SCCC was having electrical issues. They might be setting off the fire alarms for the next hour and would call when the problem was fixed.

11:13 - Burn permit issued to Seward Transfer Station for the remainder of the day and the next day.

11:33 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to Seward Mountain Haven Eagle Lodge for a female with an irregular heart rate.

11:35 - Fire alarm sounding in Eagle Lodge of Seward Mountain Haven. Fire chief was already on scene and reset the alarm.

12:55 - Officer responded to a request from the Department of Motor Vehicles for a client that was becoming agitated.

15:19 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to Bayview Trailer for a female having a seizure.

17:22 - 911 fire alarm activation at Glacier View Apartments. SVFD/SVAC dispatched. Fire chief reported it was from unattended cooking.

18:35 - Earthquake: Magnitude 5.7, 90 miles south of Adak. No tsunami expected

18:51 - Individual reported a maroon pickup was northbound on Fourth with a stop sign and another road sign in the back. Officer responded and found the vehicle at Murphy’s and reported that the signs were used for flagging on a construction site.

Nov. 15

01:20 - Verbal warning for failure to dim bright given at Seward Highway and Resurrection Boulevard.

06:48 - 911 call from individual at Bear Mountain Apartments from her brother’s phone. Officer conducted a welfare check. Everything appeared calm and normal.

12:24 - Individual spoke with an officer about a possible child endangerment case. Officer forwarded information to the Office of Children’s Services.

13:37 - 911 pocket dial.

15:38 - Automatic fire alarm sounding in harbor office in the SMIC area.

22:08 - Verbal warning for expired registration and inoperable tail light issued at Phoenix Road by the horse corral.

Nov. 16

15:55 - Off-duty officer reported that a vehicle was swerving traveling southbound past the Pit and pulled into City Express.

17:50 - Verbal warning for headlights given at Ash and Cedar.

18:06 - Verbal warning for failure to stop at stop sign given at Ash and Cedar.

21:15 - Verbal warning for headlight requirements given at Seward Highway and NAPA.

21:20 - SAST advised that a trooper was transporting Tiffani Couch to SCJ from Mile 38 Seward Highway. Couch was arrested for driving without an operator’s license.

Nov. 17

09:56 - Individual from the Hotel Seward advised that a motor vehicle accident/hit and run just occurred. The vehicle left the scene and was parked at Fourth and Washington with a flat tire. Officer located the vehicle but the driver was not in the area. A citation was issued to Tatiana Iachim for leaving the scene of an accident.

18:34 - Trooper arrested Scott Thompson for MICS VI, MICS IV and Misconduct Involving Weapons and taken to SCJ. Thompson was also issued citations for speeding, failure to carry proof of insurance and passing in a no passing zone.
