Class members chose the government position they wanted to hold. Department heads were: Brent Mahan, Public Works; Stan Lemas, Fire Chief; Jerry Evett, Electric Forman; Mike Jones, Police Chief; Dave Hatch, Harbormaster; Cathy Wajda, Comptroller and Hep Porter, City Clerk. City councilmembers were Barbara Peterson, Virginia Daquil, Joyce Wemark, Carmen Ronne, Joanne Willis and Camille Stephens.

The student mayor and council members were briefed on their role in the city government by Jim Filip and in the afternoon they held a council meeting, attended by the student department heads.
