Valdez can't touch this.

An inspired Seward High School football team swept the Valdez Buccaneers 41-0 last weekend to win the first Seahawks home game since 2009. Playing under windy fall skies, the Seahawks defense repeatedly shut down Valdez drives and pulled off a series of outstanding offensive plays including a 60-yard touchdown by Zachary Martin. It’s an outcome that the young team has been training for under the guidance of Coach Kelly Cinereski and everything came together last Saturday.

The Seahawks take on the Barrow Whalers Friday in an opportunity to knock down another win on home turf and move up the rankings in the Greatland Conference. The homecoming game begins at 5 p.m. and there will be a parade at halftime with the winning float taking a $100 prize from the Seahawks Booster Club.

Seward High School also hosts the Region III cross country meet this weekend on Saturday. The schedule starts with races for the JV Boys at 11 a.m. and JV Girls at 11:45 a.m. The Seahawks boys team will be competing in the 1-2-3A race at 12:30 p.m. and the Seahawks girls in the 1-2-3A race at 2 p.m.
