Wrestling coach Dan Seavey demonstrates a half Nelson on wrestling team member Bob Thrall. In an article about the wrestling team in the Jan. 16, 1969 Phoenix LOG, by team member and school reporter Edgar Batchford, he wrote, “The team will be, for the sixth year, under the direction of Coach Dan Seavey, who in 1963 started the sport as a pilot program. Due to its initial success it became a regular part of the athletics program.” He goes on to say of the four sports programs at Seward High School, basketball, cross-country, track and wrestling, “Wresting will be the only individual competitive sport that pits ones’ endurance, strength and coordination against his opponent offered.”
