Community Health Center meeting set

The Seward Community Health Center meets at 6 p.m. tonight at the Seward Mountain Haven conference room. The public is welcome to attend. Contact sewardchc@gmail.com for information.

Songwriters perform at Resurrect Art

Northwest songwriter Jeffrey Martin with guest Anna Tivel will perform tonight at 7 p.m. at Resurrect Art Coffeehouse and Art Gallery, 320 Third. Tickets are $10 each. To hear samples of their music visit tiny.cc/pevlvw.

Ducks Unlimited hosts charity event

Ducks Unlimited of Seward is sponsoring a bar night from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, April 19 at Seward Brewing Company. The night’s festivities will include an AR-15 raffle, gun giveaways, live music, games and a silent auction. Full beer and food menu will be available at the brewery that evening from 4 pm to 10 pm. There is no charge for the event but donations are welcome from both those able and not able to attend. For information contact Heather Callen at 491-2255.

Wilderness First Responder class offered

Kayak Adventures will sponsor a Wilderness First Responder class in Seward from Saturday, April 20 to Sunday, April 28. Contact Wendy Doughty at fun@kayakak.com or 406.980.0762 for more information.

Children’s Carnival aims to increase awareness

SeaView will host a children’s carnival from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 at the Seward Railroad Terminal on Port Avenue. April is Child Sexual Abuse Awareness month. The carnival is a fundraiser for the domestic violence/sexual assault program at SeaView Community Services and it is also geared at raising awareness and prevention on child abuse and child sexual abuse. The Police Department will be doing child ID kits and there will be information on bullying, internet safety and strategies for parents and children on keeping their bodies safe, as well as many other activities and fun for the family. Iditarod winner meet and greet planned

Mitch Seavey, 2013 Iditarod Winner will be featured along with Iditarod Hall-of-Famer Dan Seavey at a meet and greet reception at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 21 at the Seward Community Library. The community is encouraged to attend, armed with questions and ready to listen to tales from the trails. For information call 224-4082.

Training for alcohol professionals scheduled

Local instructor Hillary Bean will teach Training for Alcohol Professionals at 6:45 p.m. Monday, April 22 at Hotel Seward. TAP is a program that has been designed to meet the needs of hospitality industry and adheres to the specific requirements set forth by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board. Valid identification is required for all classes. Teachers round up kindergartners

The Kindergarten Round Up will occur in two sessions this year either from 5:30-6:30 p.m. or 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24 at the Seward Elementary School. Parents should bring five year olds (children must be age five by Sept. 1 to enroll in kindergarten), shot records, birth certificate and any questions. Teachers Mrs. Lunardi, Miss Haugh and Mrs. Barnwell look forward to meeting all the parents and children. Those unable to attend the round up, can call Seward Elementary School at 224-3556 to include a child in the enrollment count.

Fundraising dinner for Marathon Wrestling Club set

Marathon Wrestling Club, Seward’s renewed chapter of the national organization USA Wrestling, will hold a taco bar fundraising dinner at Chinooks starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 27. There will be an auction with items donated by local people and businesses. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased in advance or at the door that night. Volleyball tourney planned

The SPRD sponsored Telalaska Spring Classic Volleyball Tournament is Saturday, April 27. Email Jenni Regis at jregis@cityofseward.net for information.

Pink Cheeks Triathalon set

The Polar Bear Pink Cheeks Triathlon is Saturday, May 8. Pink Cheeks is open to all ages and ability levels. The race consists of a 5-kilometer run, 10-kilometer bike and 600-yard pool swim. Teams and individuals can compete. Registration is open online at signmeup.com/90896.

Chugach Arts Council seeks art submissions

Artists are encouraged to submit art depicting pollinating animals to the Chugach Arts Council by Tuesday, April 30 to be considered for inclusion in “Art of Pollination, Alaska Edition,” a full-size, soft cover art book slated for publication by early summer in advance of National Pollinator Week, June 17-23.
