Banquet Bash gives YoungLife Seward a boost

Letter to the editor

Nov. 3 was a blessed night for YoungLife (YL) Seward and the 150 plus folks who attended Seward’s first annual YL banquet. It was well organized, lively, gifted with good food, quality speakers and fun door prizes. The biggest blessing however was the faithful attendees who came together to learn of and support a YL chapter in Seward.

The evening resulted in an annual giving commitment by donors of $23,100, which nearly meets a $25,000 matching fund that was committed to YL Seward earlier this summer. There is hopeful expectation that the additional $158 per month giving will be achieved soon to fully meet the match. In supplement to committed monthly giving, $3,420 worth of one time gifts were also made, bringing the total amount donated for the evening to $26,520! The YL committee extends an extreme thank you to all supporters who attended and helped put on a great banquet. Through this reception a clear message was sent that YL is welcome and wanted in our community. This comes greatly appreciate by Seward’s YL committee who has been praying and working towards this goal since it hatched a year ago.

The next step for YL Seward, is to hire a staff member, train faithful leaders who will be working directly with the youth, and grow a core of youth “campaigners” to help plan contact work and orchestrate activities. Such is happening now, and starting in January once a month outreach events will begin with students. This will then advance into weekly club gatherings starting in the Fall of 2013. Participating youth going into tenth grade will also be encouraged to attend YL camps in Oregon during the summer.

For those of you who did not make the banquet event, you were sincerely missed, yet ask that you keep YL on your radar as it moves about the community. We always appreciate your prayers and/or service whenever an opportunity moves you to support YL Seward in the future. YL needs are not limited to only financial funding, but also range from meeting space requirements, to providing a meal or two for a youth gathering. If you have interest in backing the YL team in any fashion or be on an e-mail list of support contacts, please make contact at P.O. Box 1787, Seward, Ak 99664, Ph# 907-769-1386, or younglifesewardak48@gmail.com. Our goal is to be at least as much of a blessing to Seward as our supporters have been towards YoungLife.
