Sikuliaq launch party planned
The Seward community is invited to a launch party for the R/V Sikuliaq from 4-7 p.m. Monday Oct. 15 at KM Rae Building, 125 Third. The party will include food and door prizes.
Quilting group meets at senior center
Seward Senior Center has begun hosting a machine quilting group every Monday from 1-3:30 p.m. All interested quilters are welcome.
Fall book discussion begins
Seward Community Library’s Fall Book Discussion Series is 6:30-9 p.m. on Oct. 11 and 25, and Nov. 8. Doug Capra will lead the discussion with the theme of Love, War and Gender. The three books for the series are “Birdsong: A Novel of Love and War” by Sebastian Faulks, “Stones from the River” by Ursula Hegi and “The Girl at the Lion D’Or” by Sebastian Faulks. Visit the library to sign up and pick up free books for the discussion.
Obihiro exchange presentation planned
Amy Carney and Tember Eliason will do a presentation on their experiences on the Obihiro Adult Exhange this summer. The presentation is at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 in the library basement. They expect the presentation to be about an hour, followed by a questions and answers.
KFNP makes presentation of Exit Glacier oral history project
Kenai Fjords National Park staff will present a preview of an oral history project that recorded the used of the Exit Glacier area before 1980 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5 at Seward Community Library. Hunting, trapping, snowmachining, and guiding were just a few of the topics that were explored. The interviews, photos, and maps are now illustrated on Project Jukebox, a digital oral history program at the University of Fairbanks. For information please call Shannon Kovac at 422-0541.
KPC offers yoga
Yoga instruction is offered this fall by Kenai Peninsula College Resurrection Bay Extension Site. Gail Burard will teach the 10-class beginning class which starts Oct. 4. Students will learn yoga postures, breathing and relaxing techniques. The sessions are an hour and a half beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Seward High School cafeteria. Health board seeks applicants
The Seward Community Health Center Board of Directors is seeking applicants to fill two vacancies on the board. Currently, the board meets once a month, the third Thursday of the month from 6 to 8 p.m. People interested in the future of health care in Seward are welcome to contact Marianna Keil at 362-1781. The next board meeting is at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 at Seward Mountain Haven conference room. The public is welcome to attend.
