“The Performer,” Watercolor by Dot Bardarson

The Alaska Watercolor Juried Exhibit has selected two paintings by Dot Bardarson for its 38th annual show. This year the show will be hung at Stephan’s Fine Art at the Capt. Cook Hotel. The opening reception is 5 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 31.

One of Bardarson’s pieces, “The Performer,” was awarded honorable mention. This painting is unusual in that it captures violins from the perspective of the performer, rather than as seen from an audience.

The second painting is entirely different, and may not be recognized as Bardarson’s style of work because it was painted on location (en plein air) at McCarthy during a painting trip with Jennifer Headtke. Plein air paintings have a fresh, spontaneous feel that is best captured outdoors.
