Five candidates file for Seward City Council

Tuesday, Aug. 28 is the state primary election. See information and commentary about the primary on Pages 2-4.

City and borough elections are set for Oct. 2. The deadline to register to vote in the Oct. election is Sept. 2. Registration can be done at the Seward City Clerk’s office or online at www.elections.alaska.gov.

Three Seward City Council seats will be on the ballot.

The candidates for council are Tim McDonald, Kenny Blatchford, Ristine Casagranda (incumbent), Marianna Keil (incumbent) and Jean Bardarson (incumbent and vice mayor). The term for each position is two years.

City voters will also vote on two propositions.

Proposition 1 is about establishing and adopting a financial disclosure form and guidelines for the City of Seward and exempting municipal officials from the requirement of state financial disclosure laws.

Proposition 2 asks voters to approve a 7-year franchise agreement with Alaska Waste for the collection and disposal of garbage and refuse.

Sue McClure (incumbent) will run unopposed for the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly seat representing the East Peninsula for a three-year term.

For the Bear Creek Fire Service Area Board, Daniel Logan is running unopposed for the 3-year Seat D position. No one filed for the Seat B or Seat C positions.

Seward-Bear Creek Flood Service Area Board candidates are Bob Reisner for Seat B for a 3-year term, and Randy Stauffer for Seat E for a 3-year term. Both will run unopposed. No one filed for the 2-year Seat A position.

Look for information about the candidates and propositions in upcoming editions of the LOG.
