Sale benefits Meals on Wheels

Seward Senior Center will hold an indoor garage sale 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 17 an 18 at the center, 336 Third. Proceeds will benefit the Meals on Wheels program.

Potluck ends TYC summer camps

A potluck at First Lake from 4-7:30 p.m ., Friday, Aug. 17 ends TYC summer camps. Youth in the camps and their families are invited and asked to bring a side dish or dessert.

TYC after school program begins

The TYC after school program begins Tuesday, Aug. 21, the first day of school. The after school program is each 3-5:30 p.m. each week day during the school year. Contact TYC, 224-5472, for information.

Treck Camp heads to Putters Wild

An outing to transition from recreation to education is planned by Seward Parks and Recreation Department on Monday, Aug. 20. Participants will travel to Putters Wild in Anchorage for 18 holes of miniture golf in a neon 3-D undersea world. The trip is open to youth in grades 1-8. Contact SPRD to register and for information, 224-4054.

Health services offered

Seward Public Health Center is open for limited hours in August. A walk-in clinic will be held 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. on Aug. 21. Appointments for Aug. 21 are also available. Call 224-5567 for appointments or information. The center is at 201 Third, Suite 200. Services are offered on a sliding fee scale, but those unable to pay will not be denied services.

Cruise supports local emergency service efforts

A dinner cruise to Fox Island on Saturday, Aug. 25 will raise funds for the Phoenix Chapter of Alaska Firefighters Association. The evening features a sightseeing cruise aboard a Kenai Fjords Tours vessel to Fox Island for a prime rib and salmon dinner, and outcry and silent auctions. The Phoenix Chapter includes Seward Volunteer Fire Department, Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Moose Pass Volunteer Fire Department and Seward Volunteer Ambulance Corps. The four groups come together for advance training and education for emergency responders. The donation is $50 per person and 140 seats are available. Tickets are availabe at Seward Fire Department, 316 Fourth, 224-3445.

Fall Fun Re-Run coming up

The Fall Fun Re-Run 5-kilometer foot race is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 at Exit Glacier. The event benefits Seward Parks and Recreation Department programs, and the entry fee for those who register online at www.cityofseward.us is $25. Registration the day of the race is $35. Participants will receive a T-shirt from a former SPRD event. Check in is 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7 at SPRD gym. Day of the race registration begins at 10 a.m. Information is available by calling 224-4054.
