Borough elected positions up for vote on Oct. 2
In addition to Seward City Council seats on Oct. 2, area voters will elect a Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly Representative and several service board members.
The filing period for individuals to declare their candidacy is now open and closes at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15.
Candidate packets and forms are available on the borough website at www.borough.kenai.ak.us and from the borough clerk at 144 N. Binkley St ., Soldotna. Borough Clerk Johni Blankenship can also be reached at jblankenship@borough.kenai.ak.us or 800-478-4441.
The District 6, East Peninsula, 3-year assembly seat will be on the ballot. Sue McClure of Seward currently holds the position.
On the Bear Creek Fire Service Area Board, Seat B for a 1-year term, now held by Ronald Hewitt, is open. Seat C for a 3-year term, now held by Connie Elde, will be on the ballot. Also up for election is the 3-year Seat D position now held by Dan Logan.
The Seward-Bear Creek Flood Service Area Board has three open seats. Seat A for a 2-year term and Seat B for a 3-year term. The two seats are currently open for City of Seward residents. However, an ordinance, scheduled for public hearing by the assembly on Aug. 7, may change the residency requirement. The Seat E position (to be held by a resident outside the city limits), will be on the ballot and is currently held by Randy Stauffer.
