Tri-Harder-Thon set for Saturday

The Subway Tri-Harder-Thon is Seward’s first adventure challenge and is planned for Saturday, July 28. The event is for people 18 years old and older. Participants will do 5 miles in a kayak, a 6.3-mile trail run and 18.6 miles on a road bike. Registration for the event is online-only at www.cityofseward.net, with the best rates for early birds. To volunteer for the event call Melanie at 224-4054.

Health services offered

Seward Public Health Center will be open for limited hours in August. The center asks that parents and guardians plan ahead for school vaccinations. Visiting nurse Tami Marsters, PHN will visit Seward Public Health Center Aug. 7-9. A walk-in clinic will be held 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. on Aug. 8. Appointments are available for Aug. 7 and 9. Call 224-5567 for appointments or information. The center is at 201 Third, Suite 200. The services are offered on a sliding fee scale, but those who are unable to pay will not be denied services.

Quilters feature Lisa Moore

Kenai Peninsual Quilting Guild is sponsoring a trunk show and lecture by Lisa Moore on Friday, Aug. 10. Moore, an award winning designer and quilter resides in Sitka. She has taught classes in Alaska, Florida and on an Alaska quilt cruise. “The Quilters Magazine” has featured Moore’s quilts several times. The trunk show and lecture is at 7 p.m ., Aug. 10 at Christ Lutheran Church, 128 Soldotna Ave ., Soldotna. The event is open to the public and admission is free.

Cartoonist, author to give workshop

Cartoonist Jason Shiga, author of “Meanwhile” and “Empire State” for a workshop at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 27. Shiga will talk about his experiments in interactive comics, culminating in the making of award-winning “Meanwhile.” Afterward, he will lead a brief workshop on how to get started making unfolding interactive comics. The workshop is recommended for ages 10 and up. The library recommends that those who want to attend should register beforehand. Prizes will be awarded to the first 10 students who sign up. The library is at the corner of Fifth and Adams, 224-4082.

Boosters plan golf tourney

The annual Seward Seahawks Athletic Booster Club Golf Tournament will be July 28 at the Birch Ridge Golf Course in Soldotna. The tournament format is a best ball scramble with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Cost of the tournament is $100, which includes the longest drive contest, the closest to the pin contest and two mulligans. The fundraiser benefits the high school athletic programs. To participate contact Kim Reierson at 224-3228.
