Wilde raises funds for Bolivia trip
Veronica Wilde, who was chosen by Seward Rotary to spend a year in Boliva as an ambassador for National Rotary Youth Exchange, will hold a Dessert Night and Silent Auction to raise money for the trip from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 9 at Hotel Seward. The fee is $10 in advance and $15 at the door. The fare includes an all-you-can-eat dessert buffet with desserts prepared by Amy Mow and Judy Odhner, coffee and punch. Flood meeting planned
The Seward/Bear Creek Flood Service Area holds its regular board meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, June 4 in the Seaview Plaza Building, Kenai Peninsula Borough Annex Office, Suite 122. The public is invited to attend. Free energy efficiency class offered
Alaska Craftsman Home Program is offering energy efficiency classes for residents and building professionals looking to improve the efficiency of their home from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. June 9 and 10 at the Breeze Inn. The classes are basic and hands on, and useful to anyone participating in the energy rebate program. Also, 12-16 hours of continuing education is available for realtors, builders, architects, engineers, home inspectors and appraisers. City Incorporation Centennial events planned
A reception to celebrate the City of Seward Incorporation Centennial is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 1 at Seward Community Library Museum. All current and former council members and mayors, as well as community members are invited.
To get involved in the centennial, one can attend a committee meeting or contact any committee member. Committee members are Bev Dunham, Patty Linville, Margaret Anderson, Cindy Clock and Dorothy Urbach.
Library kicks off summer reading program
The Seward Community Library will welcome summer at the annual Summer Reading Program Kick-off Party from noon to 2 p.m. June 2. Families are invited for free hot dogs, chips and drinks while signing up for the Summer Reading Program. Students entering kindergarted through sixth grade can sign up for the Dream Big-READ! program to earn prizes for reading. Children up to 5 years old can sign up for the Imagination Library’s summer program. Students in grades seven through 12 can begin entering the Own the Night weekly teen raffle on May 25. Every book read equals one entry in the raffle, and the first drawing takes place at the end of the party. The teen raffle grand prize drawing for a Kindle Fire will take place at the end of the summer reading program on July 28. Rowing class offered

Low-cost microchip clinic and pet pageant planned
Save Our Seward Pets (SOS Pets) is hosting a Low-Cost Microchipping Clinic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 2 at the Branson Pavilion on the waterfront. Microchipping will be performed by experienced veterinary technicians, and are available for the cost of $20 per animal, including chip registration. Both dogs and cats are welcome. For pet and people safety, dogs should be on a leash and cats in carriers.
The Pet Pageant begins at 1 p.m. Categories include Seward’s Cutest Dog, Best Trick, Pet/Owner Costume Contest and Pet Congeniality. Winners will be determined by votes (donations) from the crowd and prizes will be awarded.
All proceeds go to support SOS Pet’s Spay and Neuter Fund, which is working towards reducing the number of unwanted pets in the Seward and Moose Pass area. SOS Pets is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, so all donations are tax-deductible.
