Race limits implemented for safety
Letters to the editor
I remember in the early 1980s when, I as the Mount Marathon Race, director started to limit the number of runners in the race to 200. This was done for safety reasons as letting in too many runners could cause more injuries. As the race progressed, a seperate women’s race was added to help alleviate stess of more runners. I still believe that the number of runners should be decreased. It was never meant to be a fundraiser for the chamber. Take care of the runners and the mountain. Not everyone can run the race. Don’t fix what’s not broken.
Thank you,
