Firefighters train to keep people and property safe

Phoenix Chapter of Alaska State Firefighters Association

Local firefighters and EMS personnel gather to train in hoses, nozzles and fire technique over the weekend.

Area firefighters and EMS personnel trained most of the weekend at the new AVTEC’s Alaska Maritime Training Center on the east shore of Resurrection Bay. Two instructors came from Washington state to lead the 16-hour certified course in hoses, nozzles and fire technique. Aaron Fields of Seattle was the primary instructor.

The training was for all volunteers of the Phoenix Chapter of the Alaska State Firefighters Association whose members hail from Seward, Bear Creek and Moose Pass. Funding for this and other trainings comes from the groups major fundraiser each fall. Kenai Fjords Tours works with the Phoenix Chapter to hold the dinner cruise and auction fundraiser.
