The Seward Phoenix Log - News of the Eastern Kenai Peninsula since 1966

Thank you for NOSB

Letter to the editor

Over the weekend of March 2-4, I was in Seward to attend my third National Ocean Sciences Bowl competition. I would like to thank Phyllis Shoemaker for the excellent job she does every year in organizing this event. Also a big thank you needs to go out to all the volunteers that helped pull this off. It is amazing to see how this event has grown. A big part of that can be attributed to Phyllis and all the volunteers and people of Seward who help put this event on.

Icicle Seafoods needs a special thanks for their donation of $25,000 in scholarships. My best guess is around $40,000 in scholarships were awarded this year. That is an incredible number. I can not think of another event that awards our students so well for their efforts.

It was also nice to see an increased interest in the art show. There were some talented artists submitting work.

There is only one thing I see this event needs. More parents and spectators in the audience.

Everyone involved in this event especially the participants should be proud of themselves, their efforts paid off to make this a great weekend.

See you next year.

Leo Americus
