Support bill to ban GMO salmon
Letter to the editor
To the editor,
I recently attended Alaska Youth for Environmental Action’s Civics & Conservation Summit in Juneau, at which I learned about House Bill 100.
House Bill 100 is a bill sponsored by Representative Kawasaki of Fairbanks, which would prevent the cultivation of genetically modified (GMO) salmon in Alaskan waters.
This bill is important because fishing in Alaska is important. If GMO salmon were grown in Alaskan waters and then escaped into the wild, it would be catastrophic for our wild salmon population since the GMO salmon would spread diseases to wild salmon and could out-compete wild salmon to the point of extinction.
Please contact your legislators and ask them to stand with me in support of House Bill 100.
Sincerely,
