East Peninsula buried by blizzard, highway closed
A winter storm blew into the Eastern Kenai Peninsula in the wee hours on Tuesday morning.
Downtown Seward saw about a foot and a half of the white stuff by late afternoon. And twice as much was reported in the inland areas.
A couple small avalanches, avalanche control and danger prompted DOT to close the Seward Highway at McHugh Creek. At press time the highway was expected to be closed until mid-day Wednesday.
