Barnwell finished the race in 22:07.3 minutes, six seconds ahead of Smith. The boys varsity team placed fourth in the seven team line up, and the Tsalteshi Trails, located behind Skyview High School, offered senior Joe Nyholm the opportunity to place in the top 10. Nyholm skied his way to a ninth place finish with a time of 20:33.9, a little more than a minute and a half behind first place winner, Intimayo Harbison of Soldotna. JV boys had top finisher Miles Knotek placing seventh, skiing the 6-kilometer race in 24:50.8 minutes, and Billy Markowitz placed 11th with a time of 25:27.9. Skyview's Stryker McLane took first with a time of 22:31.3. JV girls top finisher Maggie Herbert skied a hard, fast race and came in ninth with a time of 30:13.4. The format of the 6-kilometer races was classical. Optimistic head coach Bob Barnwell said, "We're starting to figure out this classical stuff." The Seward Seahawk Ski Team heads to the Mat Su Valley for their next meet, Jan. 29 and 30. The Seward Seahawk Skiers will host a Spaghetti Feed on Feb. 4 from 5-7 p.m. at the Seward High School cafeteria. Proceeds will benefit equipment and other skiing supplies.
